To do something like that, I'd use the colour swapping feature of the Civ2 unit designer. Just swap greens for roughly corresponding shades of white, and Bob's your uncle.

I dont know, I am not comfortable at all with using the in-game editor. When I do gfx I zoom in to between 8x and 10x so I can see all the minute differences. The in game editor maybe doubles the unit size, but it just isn't close enough for me to see all the intricacies of the units... What do you use Case?

Too grey? Nope, that's bloody perfect!
And just in time for the next playtest update. It's ready, I just have to send it out. You'll get it later today (well, today for me that is...)

Case, or FMK, or anyone else...
If you have Paint Shop Pro, or I am assuming another painting program, all you have to do is edit the pallete. Change the color of the original unit in the pallete. So the darkest green can become a darkest white, and so on...

If you edit the units palette all Civ2 graphics will be affected, so that isn't really a good idea... Unless after editing the palette, you reload the standard palette, using "Nearest color matching". That way the standard palette will be used while the colours will still be switched.

That is what I meant Mercator, just put it back in the original pallete when you are done with the nearest color matching.

My God...
That is so simple! I can't believe I didn't know about this before. Here I have been doing all of my color changes manually pixel by pixel. This will save me countless hours.

Here's one of my semi-newer collections. Some units are edited, others aren't. It's for a scenario I began about two years ago. Nothing really fancy. It's ok if you think they downright suck.

You know it's a lot easier to use the color->adjust->red/green/blue and then just reimport the civ pallete...
that's how I did all of the winterized units for Red Front...
it may be necessary to cut out a section and paste as new image and work on it from there (increasing color to 16-bit as well).

I figure since this thread has so many helpful hints, and so many good graphics, I might as well sticky it to the top so it never gets lost.

Has anyone ever compiled a cheat sheet of whose initials are whose on units? "Alex" or "Case" are pretty obvious, but some of the others are more obscure. I would love it if some one could post the major designer's initials here. Also, anybody got a B1 bomber unit?

Thanks a bunch ol' Casey.
BTW, did you get the secret files I just sent out. My email has been acting screwy when I send out big zips. I get errors back, and sometimes the emails go through no problem and even result in me getting an error. I sent them to you as well ANZAC, but it was only Chris and Nick that gave me errors...
Just let me know, and I'll resend.

Actually, it should be a F111, but I admit that i was never satisfied with it...
However, with a bit work, one could turn it into a B1

You should tell that to the USAF. I'm sure they'd love to turn their F-111's into B1's.
