Ladies and Gentlemen of Europe
Well thankyou Snapcase for the news and now this seems to be almost a confirmation that we, as Europeans, are second class citizens, or treated as such, by not ensuring a simultaneous release date across the world. I am sickened by this as all other companies seem to have grown beyond this laziness.

2-3 weeks after US isn't that bad.
I can think of other things to complain about, like the cost of car insurance....

Bummer. Not only do we have to suffer the Yanks' eternal ramblings about Bush, we also have to listen to how fantastic civ3 is
Oh well - suppose it gives me an extra three weeks to buy my new computer

Damn, the title has been edited. I considered it to be a lot more eloquent with the extra bit on the end
Well considering Infogrames, the publisher IS A EUROPEAN COMPANY, I expect a lot better!

Read the article BC
He he, I never bother reading the news, I just read reactions on threads, it saves time.

And this is from an European publishing company. Can't blame the US for this one.

Only 2-3 weeks? Are you sure? Thats absolutely great! For a while I suspected at least 4-8 weeks.
2-3 weeks delay is just about exactly right. It give you time to read important mag-reviews and Civ fan-site reactions. The 3-4 weeks delay of CTP-2, for example, saved me from the mistake of buying yet another fullpriced disappointment. I dont think that will happen with Civ-3 though, but since they wont pre-release a demo, I cant make my own judgement.

It takes time to produce the boxes and it costs money to store everything until you’ve got enough copies to release it everywhere simultaneously.
And since US is a bigger market I don’t think you can blame them for releasing it there first. (While producing the rest of the boxes for sales elsewhere)
Besides, 2-3 weeks doesn’t seem all too bad, I'd feared 2-3 months.

Ramblings? More like bltching. Besides, with work and grad school, it'll be the holidays before I find time to play Civ3 which means that even though I will be able to get a hold of Civ3, I sure as hell won't be able to play.
I think my fate is even worse...to actually be able to own the game, and still not be able to play it. Though by waiting a bit I'll probably be able to get at least a few bucks off the initial release price.

Oh come on, if other games companies can manage a simultaneous release, I am sure a company the size of Infogrames can more than comfortably manage it. As I have stated, there were never any problems with SMAC. Why is Civ3 any different, especially for a European company!!!

Warez are games that have been hacked so that you can get them without paying a dime. A way to get the game without paying for it, unfortunately that means the producer gets less money and stops making new games.

Pirated versions of software (including games) which can be found and downloaded from the web.
They are illegal.

No it's far more important than that.
And this thing about warez where tniem seemed to have a snide dig about my stance. Well why should we have to wait any longer than the rest of the world for it? Whatever happened to equality?

Does the US and Canada constitute the Rest of the World (outside Europe)?
PH your argument is akin to a man at a supermarket in a long queue, walking out the store without paying, simply because someone else is in a shorter queue.

No biggie, 2-3 weeks. We here at Asia-Pacific probably have to wait at least that long too.
Provost,
Lack of booze bugging ya?

We must wait 2 - 3 weeks? Damn, I wish the EU army would already exist.
BTW, Provost, for the English it should be much easier: simply buy the US version...

Was SMAC released simultaneously?
This isn’t an issue of size or origin of the publisher but one of the production and distribution strategies used. SMAC was published by Electronic Arts and both companies have a different organisation, different facilities and different strategies.
Maybe EA finds it worth the effort to release games simultaneously or maybe they had the facilities to do so without costing it too much.
You can’t tell until you know the technical details of the story.

Nope. First it was released in the Asia/Pacific region, a few days later in the US and about a week after that in Europe. I remember I used to flame Americans who said it was unpatriotic that EA released it in Asia first...
