SubWar release...
...is planned for next weekend. I donīt know if many here are interested in SciFi scns, since we have mainly historical scns here, but letīs see...
However, for those who donīt know it, here is the SubWar preview page:
http://www.civ2000.civ2.gamigo.de/en...000preview.htm
You can download also a modified city screen for the scn from that page.

I am not a fan of sci-fi scenarios at all but I think I'll make an exception with this one Send it over when you have got the final version, Bernd.

I'm a huge sci-fi fan, so yes, this is awesome! I'm looking forward to this scenario!
Funny coincidence: MicroProse originally distributed Civ2 and Civ1. MicroProse also wrote a game called SubWar.

Yes, it is for MGE. There are a lot of naval units, so the higher aggressive AI of MGE is better here...Perhaps I can find an older FW version (I started under FW) and bring it on the newest level, but that needs a bit time, I will not promise it

I loved that game by MicroProse! Its 3D graphics were years ahead of its time, and its storyline sounds great for a Civ 2 Scenario.
Looks great, BeBro.

I didn't know that MGE's AI was more agressive than FW's. So, has this been discussed here already?

I think so In MGE the AI does not care about your reputation, and thus is more likely to sneak attack any time. That did not happen in the other versions.

The German version...
...is available now under http://www.civ2000.civ2.gamigo.de/SubWar.htm ,
if one is familiar with the german language.
I have to make some corrections on the English version, but it should be available tomorrow too However, the sounds and the city.gif available via the link above are of course identical for both versions...
In the meantime some details about the game: In my eyes it is some kind of an experiment, because it is not a typical empire building scn. You can only play one civ (SubForce), and you have to take all cities in only 140 turns, which means that you have to concentrate on your objectives. You can found bases, build settlers or diplos (later), but in the end you always should be in mind that of course the combat units are most important.
Also, you have to find safe routes for your troop transports with recon units, and you have to escort vulnerable units with other, stronger units to spot and destroy enemies before they can wreak havoc on your transports...Especially in the early part, a loss of some units can be serious.
The events play a big role, they tell a background story and give you sometimes helpful info to complete the game, so please read text messages carefully
Finally, the scn comes with HTML helpfiles instead of a normal readme...

My theory is proven! September is the month of many releases! Can't wait to play this scenario..... maybe I could try to use my limited French to try and understand the German version!

Well, I downloaded it, despite not being able to speak German very well or being in possession of the German version of Civ2.
Needless to say, it doesn`t work.

Just install Civ2 in German. Then download the scenario and play it from there. You can install it in German you know. (I once had it installed in French to get some practice with that language).

Would that require having to uninstall the English version and replacing it with the German one?
Anyway, it`s a fairly pointless exercise for two reasons:
1) I can just wait for the English version to come out
2) I can`t find my Civ2 CD. I`m running it off the ToT CD at the moment.

Hmm... you'll have a problem there..... did you rename rules.ger into rules.txt? Because IIRC, you could install two copies of civ onto your computer, using the original Civ2 CD and selecting a different destination directory (I refute the word folder)

...and here is the English version...
...under http://www.civ2000.civ2.gamigo.de/english/SubWar.htm
Please read the HTML Help!
And the City Screen is available separately, it is not included in the zips...
For me the most interesting thing to hear is (as always): how is the difficulty - toohard/too easy? I can finish it without much problems, but I know of course exactly what to do...However, any comments are welcome.

Er, Bebro? Much as I hate to nitpick (actually this is untrue - its my chief joy in life ), rules.txt and city.txt in the english version seem to be the same as in the german.
Opened up rules.txt in SubwarE and saw this at the top of the screen
; ZIVILISATION SPIELDATEN
; Copyright (c) 1995 von MicroProse Software
So either my english isn't what it used to be or thats from the German version.
(Or I've moved into that episode of the twilight zone where everybody else starts speaking in another language )
Rest of the scenario looks absolutely fabulous btw
[Edit : . I see what you've done now. Kept the German rules.txt and city.txt and changed all of the in-game names etc to English. I never knew you could do that. Apologies]

Thanks for the comments so far
Some players reported some German leftovers in the English version, Iīll correct them later this week and post a small update...
