What's your quickest complete game
Lately it just seems I don't have enough time to do a long game anymore. I wanted to experiment with small maps. It's seems hard to get into. I like a lot of cities, and my research and production are so slow with fewer cities. I'm not as good at micromanaging as many here, hence I've never done the OCC. But I do want to speed my games up.

My quickest not including scenarios or restarts probably is still greater than 12 hours. Except for the one time I put it in cheat mode. It's pretty easy to conquer the world with tanks against warriors .

My fastest game was 50 minutes.Small map, deity, raging hoardes,7 civ,no restart for eliminated civs.Game ended 100 BC.All out conquest on small maps goes pretty quick.

The fastest complete game I have ever played did not last even one turn. I was trying to make a map that would allow very high production levels, so I made the map nothing but forest. I placed the starting locations for the civilizations in places where they would be able to get access to both the ocean and four special resources. When I started the game, the first thing that happened was the ending sequence that appears when a player finishes conquering the world. After being awarded a score of a few thousand points, I opted to continue playing the game, to see if I could figure out what happened. I found that if the computer cannot find grassland or plains tiles for placing the AI players on, it will not place them at all. Consequently, the human player wins such games by default, since no one else appears to contend with them.

Hello you all! I'm new here!

I need 1 or 2 days for a normal game.

You play one month for a game Scouse Gits?

My quickest game was the first one I ever played using the SNES version of CivI.

It lasted 10 minutes... the Indians found my first city with a chariot... game over.

I once did a huge map Alpha Centuri Win on Diety with Raging Hordes in four hours. Civ was getting pretty mechanical to me at that time and after that I didn't bother to play again for a while.

Not counting early losses...

My first successful OCC happened just 3 weeks ago. I brought my laptop to my moonlighting job as a night watch. Started up just after 2am, finished just before 6am.

My quickest complete game has been about 4 hours. That's a far cry from when I first started and it's due in no small part to playing on a small world. I used to play on large worlds, the thinking being that the more world to discover, the more fun to be had. BUT, the fun comes from the interaction with other civilizations.

BTW. I also now play Raging Hordes and Deity level. When I first started playing, I never thought I would get to this level of competency. The difficulty is just about right. For now, I win about one in three games. But I must confess that I do quit and restart the game from scratch if I have an absolutely dreadful starting position.

I've been trying BL games on small maps recently and, for me, I think 3-4 hours is about right, depending on a multitude of things. Usually though, I'd say my AC games last about 10-12 hours. I love the larger maps and I like having a game that is drawn out over a few nights, playing 3 hours at a time.

My fastest complete game was thirty-two point nine seconds. I defeated nine other civs, and landed on Alpha Centauri besides, all at 2599 BC.

Whattaya mean I'm lying? Stretching the truth a bit, maybe.

It's threads like this that make me wonder why I bothered to buy Civ 2 in the first place. Everybody who bought the game last week is already so much better than I that it seems futile to try any longer.

I suppose it could be worse; I could be addicted to MP, and find myself the favourite opponent of people who want to buy the game so they're trying it out at a frined's place. I would probably also find it near impossible to find an ally, since no one would want to carry me.

Arrgh! I'm starting to sound like a whiner!

Have fun deciding who's the fastest. I'll be back here concentrating on winning.

Jim, Don't worry about who is better than whom. Just have fun. Sure, some people like to toot their own horn, but so what. Personally, if I were looking for a fast game to play, I'd play Tic-Tac-Toe, not Civ.

I don't think fast indicates quality. I still can't beat the ai on Deity level, I just get too lazy in managing my cities. I just want to be able to squeeze in a game of civ2 every now and then. I haven't played in over a month because of my work schedule.

Nowadays I mostly stay small perfectionist type when going for AC.Maybe 6 cities tops. The game moves much quicker without a zillion units to move and a slew of cities to manage.Following a OCC tech path(kinda) and I can finish an AC game in 1 evening (4-8 hours).I don't go on offensive wars.I don't explore much.Just enough to make contact and find somewhere to ship caravans/freights.For this plan map size doesn't matter.

I don't "waste" time with frivolous wonders.Just trade and science wonders.Small caravan builder cities get a temple and colliseum and stay size 6 or hire specialists in order to run 0 luxuries in Democracy or Republic. They may get a market and library later but my main focus is on the SSC.

Small map conquests can be done in 1 session also.Just think Chivalry.Be aggressive and you can march thru 7 civs(no restart) in a couple hours on average.

I read in the strategy forum where players have 150-200 engineers alone.50+++ cities and mega populations. That type of game WILL take a long time.

Most of the time I can get to AC with 1 city faster than I can with multiple cities.Against the ai,maybe smaller is better.
