Collector's Edition Contains:
Just visited GameStop's web site to look at the Collector's Edition contents. They list them as follows.
Collector's EditionContains:
* Making of Civilization III Video
* Tech tree
* 1 unique scenario
* Sid Meier's design notes
I don't think the unique scenario has been mentioned before. If it has, sorry I must have been through that post.
There is also a different image of the tin which is kind of cool.

The real question is it going to come out any earlier then the standard game. That would be the only reason for me to buy it.

Surely that would just end up for download somewhere and everyone would get it anyway?
Unless they make some wierd distinctions between built in scenarios and ones that can be distributed.

Maybe a reduced paper-manual + a full blown PDF? Like in "Europa Universalis". I sure dont like it. I at least hope we get a full blown paper-version in the Limited Edition.

Somewhere I saw that you were supposed to get a "Strategy Guide" with the LE.
.pdf manuals suck.
Glossy book with colour pictures!

Some people buy original games for their printed manual mostly.
What would stop those guys from purchasing pirate copies or even download from the Internet?
By waiting to be available in Europe maybe?

You should not to want if you've seen the prices.
I first intended to preorder in the US.
But now I guess I'll wait.
This has the advantage of hearing at apolyton if the LE is really worth the extra investment.

The regular edition won't have a fold-out for the tech tree?
Sad to see that Sid and Firaxis has gone the cheap-ass routine like so many other companies. Heck, even CtP had a chart you could hang on the wall that had a list of where all the tech's were and what was required to research them.
I guess when you rush something out (no demo is a big clue to this) half-assed you wouldn't want to wait for a manual to be printed either.
Heh, and I am actually looking forward to the game, I can imagine what those game reviews will say about the game if the regular edition only ships with a stupid pdf file. If the game does only ship with s pdf file it had better be $5 cheaper than all the other games out there to cover the cost of me having to buy the paper and ink to print the thing out!

well...?
Maybe it's time for Firaxis to clarify some things on this?

Well, to be honest; thanks to the new very accessible & overviewable science-advisor, the tech-tree poster can perhaps be spared in the RE-version. But they should at least add 2-3 terrain/resource/unit-stat quick reference-cards. At least that.
Also; I am almost 100% sure that RE-version at least comes with a somewhat reduced paper-manual - ALL present strategy-games in DVD-cases, always comes with a paper game-manual. Why should Civ-3 suddenly be an exception? Thats simply not likely at all. Rest assured.
As for the "Collectors Edition". Look at that chunky tinbox. Can we expect a real VHS-video about "The Making of Civilization III"? Normally, I would dismiss the idea, but look at the size of that box. I have checked: a VHS-video fits nicely sideways (not just alongside) in the "Civ-2 Ultimate classic collection" box. That tinbox seems lower, but just as wide.

Well, I 'll make one thing clear and I'm serious.
If there is no printed manual (and there is only .pdf) I'm going to get a pirated copy. (I don;t want to print like crazy. It is a torture)
I love Civ and I'd never think about not paying for that great game, even double the money, since it is one of the 2 or 3 games that I amj interested in.
But if there is no printed manual IT IS A RIP OFF. Much of the fun with civ is sitting down and devouring the manual after you have played some initial games.
If the LE is the only one to have the printed manual I'll buy that, but that way I'll be forced to buy it and I'll be pretty

A paper-manual WILL be added in both game-versions. Why are you guys torturing yourself with this "no paper-manual" nonsense? Its an obvious slip-up from gamestops part.

Ralf,
I still hit my head to the wall for buying Falcon 4.0 in a «nice price» and then having to print 600 FREAKIN' pages on my inkjet!!!!!!!
This has left me scared. Things happen I couldn;t take it for civ

OK, now I understand why you are somewhat suspicious about the absence of paper-manuals. But Civ-3 isnt released as «nice price» - its full price, and as far as I know, no new full priced strategy-game have ever been released without a paper-manual, DVD-case or not. And I dont think that Firaxis is going to be the first ones who do it - especially not with such a manual-dependent game like Civ-3.
