small SS lauched 1570
This is the end of my 2.42 game.
Minimal spaceship (15,1,1,1,1,1 with fusion power) launched 1570, ETA 1606.
Careful micromanaging of beakers and gold needed in the endgame (but I was very happy launching 4 turns behind smash WITHOUT REHOMING any caravan).
(La Fayette, now travelling almost safely to AC: 79.2% chance)

Yeah!
The problem was that at first I didn't realise how small the limit to uploading is. I had four zips, but I could only upload one. Back to the drawing board...
A lot of fiddling to decide how many saves that goes into a zip (that's still allowed by the limit). I think I overdid it, some of those zips are too small...
Congrats La Fayette, seems to be a good game (haven't looked at it yet)!

puts on the gloves
Almost indentical to my first go.Got the same advanced tribe.ALWAYS get rid of any non settlers if you want nomads or tribes.I looked at this along time ago and am still convinced "no nons" on same landmass is the best general rule for nomads and tribes.
However, this time I have more cities, more contact, more techs and more routes.Which is to be expected on a 2nd try.
There will be no rehoming.

Great!
(BTW I hope you never had in mind that I was an enemy of rehoming. I loved that and did it many many times through the city screen until the community convinced me that it was written somewhere on the camel that it shouldn't be done ).
Have a nice time without, please!

Yessir, I am!
See my first session's log on page four. Will post my second session's log in a couple of minutes.
You started conquering late, I started earlier. Not sure who will finish off the world first, though!

I published my first result at world conquest on the 28.09.01 (page 3 on this thread). IIRC it was 1758 .
I am having a second try NOW (so nice to compete with my friend carolus... with very different methods, since he seems to be hardcore ICSing and I am almost OCCing).
(La Fayette, having a look at an ICS map)

Of those 34 horsemen, seven or eight were lost in an idiotic attack on a harmless sioux catapult (and a chariot, I think) in a fortress...

It's just that when I've attacked it once and see a slight fall in the cat's strength bar, I want to keep going. Erasing it from the face of the earth even though I realise it will be an expensive endeavour. Throwing good units after bad (i.e. dead!) ones...

Of course I would do it, if I knew how to. But I don't. Let us hope that someone like SG1 or Julius Brenzaida reads you soon (why not send them a pm?).

I can see now, that my mode of play does not lend itself to either early conquest or a/c landing. It is more of a prep for maximum score. I ended with 93 cities, 120m population, and only babylon (boxed in on an island)left. To develop a maximum score would be tedious, and I rarely do it.
The big question to me is : Which style is more fun?

Interesting but difficult question to answer.
IMO you must find it yourself. This means that, if you have got no idea, you must try and try again until you find a style that pleases you and is also somewhat efficient.
Here is my own view:
1) If you just wish to have fun, play scenarios or small maps and choose a path that requires movement rather than micromanaging.
2) If you wish to improve your game level, you must:
a) Read the GL (not 1 thread, ALL the GL)
b) Try to understand how this game works
c) Be prepared to micromanage (look at Dave's posts: he writes down what he does, but IMO all the players who get nice results do about the same, except that they are too lazy to write it down)
d) Ask questions (there is almost always at least one player on this forum able to answer any question you might ask)
3) Which style then?
Reread this thread. What do you find?
'pure' ICS: carolus
ICS + SSC: DaveV
ICS + SSC + Foreign Trade: the Gits (and Xarathas IIRC)
SSC + very fat cities + Foreign Trade in the endgame: arii
SSC + medium size cities + Foreign Trade: smash
SSC + few cities size8 + Foreign Trade: myself
(La Fayette, ready to explain why he plays as he plays, but ready to understand that the others have fun playing otherwise)

100: Caralis builds Mike's Chapel. Start boom, Rush buy Aqueduct in Carthage and Malaca. Panormus --> Malaca 48 gp. Gave Sioux techs for peace and traded for Mathematics, got their map too.
140: Rusucurru Founded
160: Rush buy Aqueduct in Caralis

560: Engineering, Parnormus --> Carthage 42gp.

860: Economics Carthago Nova Built
940: Navigation Carthage builds Shakespeare's.
960: Carthage --> Cedar Creek 336 gp.
1000: Physics
really thin defense.. half the city only have 1 warrior or 1 horsemen But then the ones in question are usually covered with a dip within 5 spaces (via road, leaving 1/3 movement to bribe to bribe).
Of course.. that'll change once I get Leo's built (in about 2 turns)
Bit slower on science then I would've liked.. probably should have donated more caravans to wonder building or more resources to caravan building rather than improvements? Quite a few of the games I played before have been better off tech wise.. (maybe not as developed non-tech wise..).. suggestions?
