Someone here knows too much
Yes, i know what your thinking. It is Dan. He has played the game, even talked about it. But he is keeping things away from us. Well i'll tell you your wrong! In fact i'm worried that it might be me.

Recently i was thinking about civ3 (as i do). I thought about all the new additions:

There is culture - a bit questionable a first, but i now respect it.

resources/trade - A well deserved change.

the Great Leaders - clever and probably worth it. Will add more to game strategy.

CSU/Golden Ages - very questionable, but i expect them to be well balanced. Probably a good game with or without them.

Workers/settlers - I'm not complaining, and i don't think anyone else is.

After these "large" additions/changes there are the smaller changes eg air combat, ZOC(unconfirmed but mentioned near the start),Map sizes, etc.

And then... I thought i knew everything. I was very disapointed. There would be nothing new for me to learn when i play my first game.

That evening i checked the forum again and to my surprise there was a lot of new (small but still new) information and i felt positive again.

And then i felt disapointed, worring that i now knew all there was about civ3, which is why from now on i shall not be knocking at Apolyton's door each and every day asking for some more factual porrige to release the growing hunger for information, for just another hour, from my stomach of knowledge.

Does anyone, anyone at all, share with me this ... this ... feeling?

Can there be any new stuff left that i don't know or am i in fact a civ3 guru. I hope not.

I completely agree with you. Playing civ the first time, was so great because everything was new.

If they publish all new additions on the website before they release the game, it's going to be only half as fun!

But I expect they haven't unveiled it all yet and I hope to find more surprises in the game.

Grim, I felt the same way as you for couple of weeks back. I hadn't visited Apolyton or Civ3.com for a few days when the urge to look at it all enticed me to visit once again. I actually wish I never found out about Civ3 being released until the day before release, for more than onre reason.

I do suspect we will have some surprises in store for us but maybe not as many as we like. [I'm not sure if I want any more surprises after hearing that MP might not be included. Hint hint, I might not buy the game now.]

Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.
