Turn passed to Hive.
Are we allowed to communicate with others before we meet?

Since this is NOT an official PBEM tournament game, I think communicatting is OK... It will also help us get a faster start!

I have completed my turn and sent the saved game on to Knowhow2. I am not completely sure I have sent the most recent file or the one I was sent.

hey guys,
It seems like I missed this new thread so I posted at the old one, anyway you can find the post about why it took me 24 hours to play my turn and this is what I suggested in the email I've sent to you all.
lets makes some ground rules.
1) are we allowed to contact eachother ONgame before actually meeting eachother?
I vote for NO
2) are breaking pacts and attacking the same turn allowed?
I vote for NO
3) how much backstabbing are allowed?
I vote for YES
those are th only one I could think of right now. anyone would to add anything else?
,,,,,,,,,,,,,
and I can see that the first one has already been decided so I go along with it.
happy to have you all as fellow gamers!

okey people, PuddleWatchHQ have for the resent days (2) tried sending me the right file but the first had virus and the second was something not playable so the game is still on and as soon as the game is going again we'll continue this.

I sent a self extracting archive the first two times to KnowHow2. Apparently his zip program can't open it. Sorry about that. I've resent it for the third time in regular format so it should be okay now. For the record I use MacAffee zipman.
I only have the one e-mail and it is actually very reliable and well the ISP I use is the only local ISP. I would have to dail long distance to get to another ISP. I live out in the sticks.
I know I could sign up with hotmail or some other free email company but it's a pain to remember to check two different email accounts and keep track of the login and passwords for a second account. I would suspect that the error message you got was a result of the events in NYC and Washington and the resultant problems and increase in phone calls and internet usage. I live in upstate New York and I think the communications cables for the region run through New York City. I'm sure things will clear up.

okey the file still doesn't load on at my SMAC program. actually neither times were the problem at the zip and unzip part of the process of PBEM. as I wrote before, the first time I couldn't download the file from hotmail because the file was infected with some sort of virus. the second time I could download it and extract it, but when I tried to load the file as a saved game for PBEM the rpogram tells me that the file isn't a "saved game". so the problem probably lays in the file itself and not the zip/unzip process or choice of zipprogram (although I could be wrong here). So my thought is this: Im gonna be away for 36 hours or so and during this time PuddleWatchHQ can looks things over and perhaps try downloading the "saved file" and see if it works, if it doesn't then you can replay the turn and sent that new saved file to me (after reloading it yourself first) or if it works - send the file to SPasmofiT and he try it out and if it works there to we can simply draw the conclusion that I obviously have the problem so instead of me spending time fixng my programs simply find a replacement for me, cause i don't mind at all.

Okay, I went to the saved game file in my Alpha Centauri folder and I opened the file up to the point where it says; " You have already played this turn if you proceed beyond this point the other players will receive a message about possible tampering. I just pushed escape to get back to the last menu. I don't understand what is wrong. I know the first time I zipped the file the file name was weird but I thought it was just because I had made a self extracting archive rather then an ordinary compressed file. The file seems to open for me I don't understand what the problem is.
Should I just send the file to Knowhow2 unzipped? Zip it again?
I did run into a problem when I first tried to play this turn. I was trying to see which directory the saved game would play from so I put it into the main folder rather then the saved games folder where I had been putting the saved games as soon as I got theme from Spasmofit. I loaded the game up to the password screen but didnt' go into the turn then I closed out to check the directory I had put the saved game into. I then attempted to open the file again later and it wouldn't let me open the file. I had to delete the the file from the saved game file and then go back to the email and unzip it again. I did this and replaced the file and everything worked fine.
Any ideas on what is wrong? I'm not very good with technical issues.

Okay here is what I did for the 4th try. I deleted all the old files and tried to restore from the email file that spasmofit sent me. I opened the thing up and it said I'd already played the turn and so forth. I repeated the turn and zipped it up and sent it to Knowhow2 again.
I did create a saved games file on my desktop but was unable to select a desktop option for saving the game to. Shrug. Maybe I missed it in the mess of other files.
Here's hoping this fixes the problem.
Sorry about the delay.

Virus alert:
Okay so I did have a virus. JS/seeker.gen virus. It's an old virus from October or so of last year. I have had current dats since then so it must be new on my computer. It's listed on McAffee's site if you want more info. My apologies to all. This is actually the first virus that I've found on my system. If you have updated your anti virus software since November of last year you should be okay as that's when the virus was first discovered.
I've just updated my virus dat files with the September 20 dat files so my system has been disinfected. Again sorry about this.
KnowHow2, I'll send the turn again.

so after a few more problems than you could imagine PuddleWatch and I finally managed to solved everything (well PuddleWatch solved the most since most problems were at his end) the game is finally underway again.
