Those pesky mind worms
In later stages of a game, mind worms in their evolved stages and such are a real pain. Fungus is appeasring everywhere with 10+ mind worms appearing every time. It's very annoying. How can I make them go away or make them not appear so frequently and so strongly later in the game

Don't run such high ecodamage. Improve your planet rating. Build tree farms/ hybrid forests/ centauri preserves. Lower your mineral production.

Or

Enjoy the fact that Planet is sending you so much energy. Keep some 6re-1-3 tanks around as wormkillers.

Normally this is the result of fungal blooms, >pop<, which are due to pollution, called eco-damage. The level of eco-damage can be seen somewhere in the left middle section of the city screen.
Recently, there was a thread on the eco-damage formula, it may be helpful if you read it.
The quick thing to do is to check all cities for eco-damage and reduce mineral production accordingly. On a longer term, build Tree Farms, Hybrid Forests, Centauri Preserves and Temples of Planet. IIRC, each one should give you one free mineral per city. It helps very much to attack the new fungus squares with a unit with good morale and possibly empath song. Attacking increases your chances to win and if you win you kill all worms instead of having to deal with each one separately on defense.
The worst thing I had were more than ten Locusts of Chiron (the flying worms) and I had only two defensive units in the city. Result: nearly complete rebuilt.

You may be talking about the fungus growth that occurs after you start the Voice of Planet. This is part of the game and adds a challenge to the completion of challenge sequence. The fungus actually helps you at that point, and you just need some empath hovertanks running around on mag tubes to take care of worms (empath copters are useless against those huge stacks).

Well I gotta tell ya, I ain't really looking for stuff like building more centauri preserves and keeping my citites tidy. I want it reduced, forcibly, ie illegitamate ways. bugs, hacks whatever. 'Cause it's just disrupting my gameplay

It IS part of gameplay - so live with it. That's the planet talking back the way it was meant to.

An illegitamate way to reduce is to build/sell/build/sell/etc... a Tree Farm/ Hybrid/ or Preserve as many times as you can - then you can go back to blasting away the planet, boreholing, whatever.

Read the article. There's your answer.

there IS a way to kill all of those mindworms.
one way: you can go in alpha.txt and replace the native life with a unity rover, for example. this is a much weaker thing, but i don't think it gives you any energy when destroy. just a way to kill.

Could you replace it with something more interesting, like a probe team (what would it do?) or a PB (what would YOU do?)?

yes, you can actually, because probe team are basic units. i'm pretty sure that you can do this, although this would kill the game mechanics, but if you really hate mind worms, then replace the mind worms.
