Achievements that made you swell with pride
I'd be interested to hear from everybody what they consider to be their finest achievement. Anything, from a comeback from an impossible position to a very unusual little tactic that worked wonders. Or the first time you've won, anything. What is your fondest memory, the achievement that made you swell with pride?
Mine must be, that in one game the first five cities that I've founded ended up as the complete top-5 cities in the twentieth century. It was done more or less undeliberately, without any tricks like razing other wonder-ridden cities to the ground. I just had to look at the top-5 every turn, just to boost my ego.
And please, don't turn this thread into a show-off one. (Unless you've managed to conquer the world by 1300 BC!!)

One achievement, small in comparison to most players, but major to me.
In a recent 4 player game, I went from 4th to 2nd in the last 2 sessions. The game ended with A/C achieved by my ally (always in 1st place), and I had been stuggling in 4th the whole game (why do I always get the pennisulas?). Seeing that I was safe, defensively, and in good shape with city improvements and production demographics,I went mad-out on WLTxD!
I doubled my population between 1806 and 1848 (where the game ended). Having many coastal cities, harbors, and off-shore platforms are a deadly combination with WLTxD for PG growth! I even had coastal fortresses and SDI everywhere.

I have to add another one. My first MP victory...
In my first Zone MP game, I beat Suas333 and Weird God. They spent the game fighting each other, and I just developed happily away (in blissful ignorance).
It was a fluke, but it sure made me feel good for a while...

Hasdrubal, et al.:
It's not my greatest achievement, but I did get a great deal of pleasure from smashing the Sioux Empire — after it had conquered all of North and South America and put colonies in China and Africa.
I was playing the Amazon Nation and the long, drawn-out war was a modern one. Even better, no nuclear weapons were employed ...

My best achievement of all is having been able to build a super-science city. In the XXth century that city alone was giving me 1000 beakers! Thanks to this city I learned about the "negative tech" bug.

I can't remember my very best, but the game I'm playing at the moment is me on the Europe map as the English. I had 22 cities across England, the islands, America and Iceland, along with Denmark, Holland, Belgium and the north of France. I got the Indans on the opposite side of the world as allies, and the Spanish and Germans (reduced to one city) soon became my allies as well. When I came into contact with Russia, war happened - but I planned for this. There were 220 Howitzers across 5 cities, and Russia had the 2 weakest military and a huge infrastructure of railroads and roads.
The Chinese followed - they split into Chinese and Romans, which I duly crushed. The Babylonians were next, and I had 60% of the world under English Socialism. The alliance with Germany and Spain was cancelled, so they're dead. Spain has 4 cities left, and the Indians will be left to one city. At te moment it's 1911. My conquests began in 1908, and they'll be finished by 1913.

Only in its historic context it would be a grand achievement. Still, i jumped off my chair and did a little victory dance when i finally conquered Constantinople in the CiC Jihad scenario. Capturing Rome for the first time as the Carthaginians in the standard Rome scenario was a nice one too.

I was in a four player game with some legends, and for most of the game i was strong but not supreme. Certain animals (ferrets) were a little bit annoying , but it was the huge Viking Empire which was my neighbor that was the real threat. He managed to build a very quick Mikes Chapel and had a nice lead. I hunkered down and built my infrastructure while defending my forts. I got to a point in MP where i was getting a new tech every turn.
Once those ferrets realized what i was up to, they pulled the best military campaign ever against me.... but thats another story best told by the other author.
Back to me though, i snuck up and built Manhattan Project and of course Nukes. Well i dropped one and struck fear through the other mighty empires and they all conceded. Was a nice win and since then i have dropped nukes a couple of other times always achieving the same result .... as for those ferrets, they are better to have as allies than as foes. They infest rather quickly in your back yard.

I don't know if you were being ironic with the conquest of the world by 1300BC..., but the moment that I felt better in a civilization game was the first time that I reached alpha centauri, I played king in big map and I had over 50 cities found, any conquered to other civilizations, I used to played bloodlust until that was the first time that my objective was to try.
Also I think that the best part of civilization is when one finds a huge space with plains with no enemy civilizations that can colonize by his own

Shaka, I was not being ironic.
I didn't want this thread to be a place for bragging, like 'I landed on AC then and then', or 'conquered the world by this or that year'. That would be boring as hell, and beside the point. But, If you really set an amazing record (I, for one, do believe that you've done it without cheating), in that case I can imagine someone naming that as their most delightfull Civ-experience.

My finest achievement was not playing ToT AT ALL for a whole week, when I had a critical work deadline to meet.

My best acheivement was winning a nuclear war. Problem was, when I won the game we had so much pollution I had a really low score.

Let's see...my biggest game achievement was the first time I beat 200% on a prince game (big for back then), where I had annihilated three of the ai civs, and surrounded the last one (zulus, in one city, NOT their capital), and proceeded to colonize the world, winning on the final turn, achieving something I've never replicated since: a 100-turn (max possible) peace bonus, a perfect reputation, and conquering the world (by taking the last zulu city with a dip, thus keeping the peace-bonus.
My most humorous civ-experience was a medium-sized earth game, where, playing as the greeks, I rolled into Washignton in the year 1776, while the game was playing "Ode to Joy". Who say's Greeks didn't have an effect on American society?
War-Sounds like the ferrets didn't have and ICBMs of there own...

You watch Dragonball Z, KhanMan?
Following up on my previous achievement - 189 out of 190 cities are English Communist controlled (me) and one city is left to the Indians. Their city radius is totally covered with tanks, and spies infiltrating Dehli on a regular basis have destroyed all units and all buildings apart from the Palace, SDI and the Wonders.
All I have to do now is finish Future tech research, clean up pollution left after rapid Stalinistic industrilization and max up the happy people...

Comrade Dan-LOL! Communism, eh? Not bad...personally I prefer Demo most of the time (max population growth, when you can buy everything from marketplaces to sewer systems).
BTW-What the heck is Dragonball Z? Name sounds familar, but I've never seen it...

I'm not as good a player as the rest of you, so this isn't as interesting.
I always had a bear of a time paying the upkeep on my city improvements, always having to decide whether to sell some or raise taxes (OH, my poor science rate!). I got a huge grin that lasted all day when I finally learned to use caravans and set up trade routes, and my trade advisor told me "We're RICH,RICH,RICH"
That made my day.

LOL! To tell you the truth, I reacted the same way, when I finally figured out how to do the WLT* Day loop in Demo/Republic...
Sad to see that the financial advisor becomes an idiot, once the modern era is entered.
