Should there be an option to randomize UUs?
Should there be an option to randomize unique units? I'm not sure I like it that when you begin a game, you know about when you'll get your UU and golden age, along with the UUs and golden ages of other civs. With this information, you could decide to kill the Americans and Germans early while you have the chance. If UUs are randomized and you don't know when you'll get yours, you won't be able to plan ahead in this way. Also, you couldn't rush to the technology that gives you your UU or prepare the necessary resources for its building. Imagine suddenly finding out that the Chinese, who you had ignored for so long, had developed panzers and were staging a surprise attack! Sure, the names may not go with the civ but that is only a minor detail that could probably be edited anyway. Personally, I believe random unique units would be fun and would add to the replayability.

I'd find it funny. I like the idea. SMAC introduced the concept of randomized agendas and such, I think it would actually be a pretty easy option for Firaxis, especially as they've done it in their past games. I'm all for it.

I guess an option wouldn't hurt
And it would be really cool to see the mighty french Impi getting closer to your borders to take one of your cities.

Not something that I'd care for. Just clutter up the options screen, if you ask me.

I'd like this.
I also would like it if u couldn't tell what another civ was. And thus you would never know that the romans had that secret unit up their sleeves, and when exactly they would get it.
I think that such a implementation of unique units and inherent attributes might cause me to actually use them.

I'd also like an option that allows UUs to become just regular units, that anyone can play as if they were the unique civ for that unit.

No reason? How about surprise? Never nowing just waht your opponent is gonig to do. Give the computer a bit of oomph.
An american impi? Silly? Yes. But so is an american phalanx.

Would you like to read my original post?
If you have a problem with the names, I'm sure there's something in the editor change unit names so you could make them less civ specific. Anyway, the point is to rewrite history, not follow it.
Right now the vote is split 12-12, but "yes" has been catching up.

I voted yes.
Obviously, having this option would not lead to historically accurate games, but does it matter?? Including this option would allow you to play a game where you dont know exactly how it will play through to the end. More fun, i say!!

Yes, every option makes the game better. Personally, though, I wouldn't use it.

So when you play as the Americans, you leave all your cities undefended until you get muskets?!?

Well, how about the Babylonians or Romans going around nuking the world? Is that right? This is a game in which you create history, not necessarily repeat it. If you want a realism and historical accuracy, maybe you could find that at the library.
Anyway, I really could imagine a bunch of Americans running around throwing spears.

damn it, the unique units are supposed to be unique.
the other units are generic, used by many civs in the world at some point.

By randomizing the UUs, each UU would still be unique. One and only one civ would be able to build a certain UU, and each UU could only be build by one civ. The only thing randomizing the UUs does, is allow, say the Americans to have the Impi as their UU ( ) and the Aztecs to have a 'Rider' for their UU...
The UUs would by no means become generic, as the Americans would lose their ability to build good planes, and the Chinese wouldn't be able to train advanced knights.
