Europa Universalis II
The new game is coming out soon?
What do you want included in it?

Colonization to Japan and Africa?
A larger Time span?

etc?

DC, why don't you come over the the official fora, where they discuss it in more detail?

Its looks pretty cool. The only thing I dont like about EU are the controls and the fact that so much is going on at once . War with france, whilst the Aztec's revolt.Cant take care of both

I just took a look at what EU2 will offer. Most of what they have done are things that don't really make anybody outside the EU family say: "Wow! Looks like a totally revamped game! I was a bit cautious before, but this looks like something I can really jump into!" There are more countries, more religions, longer time span, etc. The 'more of the good stuff' plan...but nothing particularly appealing to a casual glance.

Now, I am not complaining about that at all. If I end up enjoying my first full IGC, I'll probably buy it. I just wonder if they couldn't somehow make the game more appealing to a mass market so they can make money.

Then again, if they programmed for the mass market alone, we might not be getting more countries, more religions, longer time span, etc. In the end, it seems EU has enough support in Europe and now other places to make them a good deal of money, and since they have a relatively fast production cycle (and pretty low production investment), it looks like they'll make some good money on this, more than EU in all likelihood. That's great!

I think that sequels should expand the scope of the original or go into more depth on interesting areas.

Expanding the time period does not strike me as a major priority. I would rather see more depth in the ideas from EU than new ideas that are novel.

I would vote for improvement/consolidation over expansion, especially given the fact that the two are being released and developed almost back to back.

Well the time frame isn't the main expansion (though playing the Napoleonic era is VERY intriguing, as is the Reconquista and the 100 years war - almost makes it a new game). Also there are over 180 countries and more new provinces.

The main things are ability to change how your empire works, domestically. How centralized things are, or how free market, etc. You going to be conservative or radical? Serfdom or freedom? Add to that the new event engine, and you have to make decisions based on those events. Who will you back in the War of Roses or the French Revolution?

-Merchant
-Soldier
-Craftsmen
-Farmers

... And you have to manage relations between them?

Well that's why I didn't get the first game and that's why I am so excited about the second game. Napoleon is my hero; although I'm definately no more then a casual history fan. The guy just has so much charm and charisma you can't help but love him. Anyway I'm sure I EU2 will definately imporve my historical knowledge.

I don't read books, but I have thought about buying some books on Napoleon. Perhaps I will someday.

I think EUII looks like it will be damn near perfect. I am actually looking forward to it more than Civ III

I only have one question.

Will it have a built-in random map generator?

What for?
Do I lack imagination, but to me an idea of random map generator suonds silly. EU is trying quite hared to be historically quite correct (or as far as itr is fun). So how would the European countries in a random map be located? I'm sorry but I caan't see this as good.

But I would love to hear your comments on why a random map generator for EUII would be good.

No, it wont.
However, there will be an option to make up your own scenarios.

It's just that I prefer the Fantasia type scenarios, that is, starting from scatch with only one province, a bit like playing a civilization game.

Will we be able to play any country with the Fantasia scenario this time?

The new diplomatic options sound cool.

Also because of the 1419 start they will be tons and tons of Muslim minors to play

1419- The muslims were the strongest powers on earth..They conquered all of middle east, africa, and some of asia. They even got a foothold in Southern Spain. In EU1 you see the remnants of that. Just as Europe comes to prominence, only reminder of the Muslim invasions on Europe is the country of Navarra (which doesnt last long).

I admit, this will be interesting

You are thinking of Granada.

Not that Navarra ever lasts that long either...Grenada does get chomped up very quick though.

EU2 looks like it will be fantastic. EU1 was decent enough itself, and the general thinking is more on improving core stuff than reinventing the game. Not that hasn't stopped other games from blowing, but this looks better.....
