good news on custom-civ creation from civfanatics
i was reading over the civ3 infocenter at http://www.civfanatics.com, and i came across this bit of text, apparently a quote from firaxis, in the 'civilizations' section

The Mongols, the Spanish, the Celts, the Vikings, and the Carthaginians are NOT in Civilization III. But by "using the supplied editing tools, players will be able to create and play with other custom civilizations".

there it is. hopefully its true, maybe its not...

That's definitely true. They (Civ III team) said we would be able to do that months ago.
Just think, oh, I can go say here is the mongols and I want them to be militaristic, expansionistic, special unit say rider.
And with some good editing(for those of you into 3d) you could creat the leader as well.
I'm counting on you 3d people to help out with this.

I don't think you'll need to know 3d to make custom leaders & units; I seem to recall firaxis saying you could use 2D figures instead.

Yeah, you can use gifs and stuff. But I would prefer to have the high quality stuff.
I think they're using light machine or something.

When you create a custom civ, can you add it to the existing civs, or do you have to replace one of the existing civs with it?

I'm hoping it is is the former.
I read that you can share custom civs/units/techs/etc. that you created with the provided tools on the Internet, so at least they are easily portable.
