Have you the patience to wait for the LE-version?
I found the following info at http://civ.strategy-gaming.com/civ3infocenter.shtml: "European release of Standard Civ III is in Mid November. Collectors Edition is due early next year in Europe."
"Early next year" could mean february/mars. Now, for those who are reasonably well off and/or isnt exactly a skinflint when it comes to money. How many have the patience to wait for the LE-version?

No I don't. I'm buying whatever comes out first. Demo, alpha, beta, gamma, delta, SP, MP, LE,... whatever! I just can't believe I can't buy it right now.

You forgot 3 other poll options
*dont buy the game at all just download it(or copy it from some friend) from some warez site
*wait for feedback and rewiews and then perhaps buy the game
*other
Ill probably wait until people starts to tell if its good or not.
The collectors box would be cool though if its a good game, im not buying anything just because the 2 older civ games changed my life.

Downloading games from warez-sites is a complete nighmare. I have tried 2-3 times just of curiosity, but I always give up early on. Those sites are clogged with ads & repetitive polls, and the servers seems constantly overloaded. I have heard of gamers more patient then I am, that after downloading 20+ zipped parts of the game - that sometimes it wont work anyway, because some 2-3 missing files. Also you dont know what kind of invisible added **** you are downloading in the process (viruses, spyware and whatnot). Just buying the damn game in a store almost seems like a welcomed relief, by comparison.

I assume that most Apolyton Civ-veterans are hardcore fans, that want to economically support the idea of future expansion-packages (and hell, even Civ-4) by getting their hands on legaly bought copies.

This is understated in the fourth alternative: "I think I wait a couple of weeks/months first, regardless".
Now, what could that be?

I want the LE and I will buy the LE. If they can't be arsed to publish it until xmas 2145, then I'll either buy it online or copy/download it until it's available. But I will buy the LE.

Hey, I don't have to wait, so I'm buying limited edition. And I hereby shun all those who might buy both versions. You are a blight that should best be cleansed from apolyton.

I'm not sure if this is completely legal, but:
I'm considering copying off a friend initially and then buying the LE when that comes out to get my own CD. Or I might buy both- I know my Civ2 CD is scratched beyond any hope of restitution...

*tsk* *tsk* *tsk* Snapcase, you don't have your copy hermetically sealed? You don't actually need the Civ2 CD to play the game, you just need the CD if you want to see the advisors and Wonders. (j/k)

Ive pre-ordered the LE, so im hoping that by the time it reaches here, the standard game will be just released here, or is released later, just so im not tempted to move myself into the "Buy both' category...

I think I will buy both, but keep in the end only the LE, and provide the other version as a gift for my nephew, who is always short of money, because his horrible parents often refuse to spend their whole money in computer games...

Yes, thats one variant. Personally, Im going to trade the SE-version in a second-hand PC-game store. I get a decent prize for it, if I buy a new game also. "Europa Universalis II" by the way, is planned to be released around christmas as well. Maybe I buy that one.

I'm buying the plain vanilla version as soon as it hits the Finnish stores. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'll probably buy the collectors edition, I'll (hopefully) be pretty busy the next few months anyway. If I'm not, I'll buy the regular version asap.
Plus, if I get it "early next year" I'm sure there will already be alot of patches, maps, scens and mods

I am definitely waiting before I buy. I feel that Firaxis has bitten off a lot in this project and I am not sure they can pull it off. I will wait until I see 4 or 5 reviews come out and how the reaction here at Apolyton is to the game before I buy it. I was burnt once by buying CTP2 on the first day ($70 wasted) and now I am a little gun shy.(God that game was crap!!!)
This works out great for me because I wanted the LE version anyway.

IŽll buy the standard edition as soon as it is released. And I hope it includes a 'big chunky' manual (no PDF-file, please) and a folded tech-tree.

Of course not... I'll have to wait up to a month in which our US counterparts will be enjoying the game... I cannot wait any longer for a biscuit box...
