Need help with Civ2 please
Hi all, I found this site searching the web for ideas with my problem, and thought this would be the best site to get help.
I bought Civilization 2 the other day, and cant get it to run at all.
I am on a PII 450, with 512 MEG RAM, running windows 98.
I installed the game, and when I try to run it, I get an error notice that says WinG Load Failure Error 2.
The manual says that after the game installs, that WinG and Indeo Video for Windows, but I havent seen them install.
I tried installing WinG from the CD, but I get a message that I dont have enough disk space or memory. I have 1.98 Gig free on my drive, and like I said, I have 512 MEG RAM.
I also tried to install the game on a second drive in my system, 30GIG, and got the same messages.
I am at a total loss here as to what to do next.
Any help or advice would be appreciated, and thanks in advance for your help

You need to install it on a Mac
Just kidding. I have no idea, but good luck--it's an awesome game!

Isn't there an adress(e-mail,telephonenumber,...) included in the booklet of the helpdesk??they should be able to help you.
(or try through the official CIV2 site, that's also a place where they might be able to help you)but certainly try the helpdesk.

It must be something to do with the way your machine is setup, becuase I have a PC running Windows 98 and it works fine. Just out of curiosity do have Gold or standard. Because I ony tried the standard, I never got around to trying Gold on WIN 98 yet? Good luck

Apolyton CS is the right place to ask anything about
Civ, Civ II and Civ III.
But no answers are guaranteed.

Which edition? Original Civ II? Ultimate Classic Collection?
Call to Power? ...?

At this point I have to say that there doesn't seem
to be too old hardware.
Do this:
1. Uninstall the game.
2. Remove any remaining files.
3. Update the drivers of your graphics card.
4. Get the latest DirectX.
5. Download the latest Indeo codec.
6. Install the game and keep your fingers crossed.
Usefull links:
Click here for graphics card drivers!
Click here for MS DirectX 8.0a!
Click here for the latest Indeo codec!
Hopefully these hints help you!

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I failed to mention which edition I have, sorry.
I have the standard version of Civ 2.
I am going to do all the things Rasbelin mentioned, and as he said, keep my fingers crossed.
I will keep everyone posted.
Thanks again.

Not exactly sure what did it, but I got it running
I followed what Resbelin said..
Unistalled everything associated with Civ2,
Updated my video drivers, Indeo Codec,
Reinstalled DirectX,
Heck.. I forget what all I did.
All I know is, when I reinstalled Civ2, it took the WinG install and the Indeo install.
Finally..
Thanks all for the help..
Now to figure out what I am doing in the game heh.
