Rider is generic enough to be acceptable to me.
Afterall, I was raised on generic bran food all my life!

Does anyone recall the name of the unique Chinese unit in that Mongol scenario for Civ 2? The Mongols had elite cavalry and something else... there were Turcopoles... the Siege Engine... Played on a large Asian map. It was part of the Civ 2 Scenarios pack Microprose put out; it included the "Best of the Net."
Anyway, sorry about the rambling, but what about using the name of that unit, whatever it was?

Sorry El Hidalgo, but it was the Sheng-ch'uan, and in another thread we've already decided that it's not authentic. We Chinese-speakers took a long time just figuring out what the word means.

The Iroquois unit is called the Mounted Warrior
at this rate we'll have 2 utterly generic CSU names.
Can someone help me email Apolyton or Firaxis about this? I've done it a couple of days ago but nothing has happened yet. And Civ is almost gold now...

Post their emails right here. As the original proposer of Tieqi, I should take part in this as well.

I went thru the 'send email' button in their user profiles. I have a feeling that the Apolyton 'send email' feature doesn't work or something.
anyway, here are their email addresses.

I sent message to both of the two address, explaining to them how Tieqi would be better than simply Rider. Hope they would read my email, and consider our suggestion.

I see. Thanks for refreshing my memory. There were a lot of things about that scen that were inauthentic; didn't know that was one of them. Out of curiosity, what does the word mean?
Well, no matter what Firaxis does, I will just permanently change 'rider' to 'tieqi' in rules.txt or whatever the appropriate file is.

'Sheng-ch'uan' means the Guarantee of Victory.
As for the 'Rider', DanQ wrote back telling me to send the message to Firaxis myself, via askthecivteam! i wonder how *unoften* Firaxis checks that particular address.

I see, Sheng refers to victory, and Chuan refers to battle?

Chuan, written as Quan in pinyin, 4th tone, as in ticket, coupon, voucher, or guarantee.
An alternative possibility is Suan, 4th tone, meaning calculations. But 'Ch'uan' is Quan in Wade-Giles, so Quan is more likely.

exactly. I mean, there actually is a Chinese expression going 'Holding Firmly the Guarantee of Victory' but no general as far as I know actually names an army 'Guarantee of Victory'.

Too late!
civ is now gold.
After sending mail twice to DanQ and MarkG, I was told by them to send to Firaxis instead, and apparently that email wasn't exactly read.
well... civ is an editable game after all, so i'd still be playing with the Tieqi.
