Have you heard about this?
In the latest PC Gamer, they have this section asking game designers what game they would take with them to a deserted Island.
Will Wright (of Simcity fame) chose Alpha Centauri , said he never had enough time to really explore the depths of that game.

AFAIK Sven Nordqvist, the author of the Pettson and Findus books, has Civilization II as his favorite game. (That was at least last time he told that to the media )
