Help! Will I be able to run Civ 3?
As a Mac user, I'm a bit disheartened that the Mac version of Civ3 will be coming out later than the Windows version. Luckily, I will have my copy months before the rest of the Mac world, thanks to a handy little program called "VirtualPC" which is a Windows 98 emulator for the Mac. I can order the Windows version and get it the same time as everybody else. However, I'm not quite sure if it'll work on my computer.

Here are the system reqs for Windows:

.: Pentium II 300mhz
.: 32 megs of ram
.: 400 megs hd
.: 4X CD-Rom
.: DirectX 8.0a vid. card
.: 1024x768 Req.
.: Windows

Obviously, as a Mac user, I don't have a Pentium II, but I have a 500 MHz G3 which I think should be adequate.

Ram...198 MBs, HD...13 GBs left, CD-ROM...24x, 1024x768 resolution...check, Windows...check.

But that DirectX 8.0a vid. card? I have a 3D graphics accelerator on my computer. It's an ATI Rage 128 3D accelerator. Will this work?

When it comes to things like this, they can't really be predicted.

The only way you could find out is to try it, I doubt anyone at Firaxis has of yet, but it would be interesting to see if it does work on the emulator.

Thanks guys...

I'm just having pre-game anxiety. Do you know how much it would suck to wait and wait and wait for a game and then to have to order another part.

I now realize it will probably work because it could handle Quake II (however I had to play it on a fraction of my computer's smallest resolution in order to get it less choppy). Speed isn't much of an issue here though. If I allocate enough RAM to it, I run Civ2 faster than my friend's new Dell, but Quake is in a huge 3D world.

(I can't wait for this game!)
