If you've been good, he'll give you more strategies for Christmas...if you've been bad, he'll just hand your ass to you in a match

Nahhh, I'm a lover, not a fighter, and have said before that I lack the 'killer instinct' to be a truly outstanding player. Oh sure, I understand it intellectually, and can write about it at length, but when the chips are down, I just can't bring myself to be *mean* to my friends!

How can you expect the kids to be good when you don't give them enough of an incentive?

Supreme Strategy vs. Killer Instinct.
But, what happens when you have both?
Besides, I doubt Vel would 'hand my ass to me'.
You'd need Vel, Buster AND Kody to succeed in handing my ass to me.

Boy, I'm glad I looked inside this thread. I'm a bit of a SMAX newbie and this looks to be a pretty comprehensive guide. Should be arriving on my doorstep within a week.

You came to the right place. Vel still checks in once in awhile. Use the search button. There is vast knowledge to be had. People are friendly about answering newbie questions too...for the most part

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this game, having been pointed this way by a colleague. I downloaded the demo and was immediately hooked, so I have now ordered the original game plus the Alien Crossfire expansion pack.
I would like to know, having read the authors guide to Alien Crossfire online, if it is possible to buy this full guide in the UK? Thanks in advance.

Okay, so like Jewish people celebrate Hanukah, Christians and Americans celebrate Christmas, so like, what do Buddhists celebrate?

Just got my own copy of Vel's SMAX Guide v.4.0 and it is the absolute best "strategy guide" I have seen.
Everything else on the market from Prima, and Sybex, etc. are nothing but extended manuals loaded with information that usually should have been with the game manual in the first place.
Just want Vel to know that I truly appreciate his work and hope he continues to write "strategy" guides.
Civ IV is due out soon, and "if" it is actually a good game, (Civ III sucked), I would hope that Vel would develop a strategy guide for it. I'm hoping Civ IV will take a lot more from SMAX, and not much from Civ III. We'll soon see!

For the first time, you can read Vel's SMAX Guide Version 4.0 (final) on the net. Before only earlier versions were available on the net. And you had to get the hardcopy book for the final version.
As a founding member, Velociryx has posted it in a new SMAC forum with the following words: "my gift to the WePlayCiv community is to put the entire, commercial release of the SMAX guide here, in these forums, in hopes that as this venerable game continues to attract new players, they might find many answers to their questions here."
