Pembleton, I think you are missing the point of forums.
And the very old saying now, goes "If you don't like it, don't read it" I'm pretty sure no one is interested in adjusting what they like to talk about to your standards.
I like windowed mode because it allows me to multitask much much easier (the way *I* would prefer to multitask). I can see icq at all times, and I can browse the internet at the same time while still being able to play and watch the game (tiled like view).
I like full screen because the interface is nicer and better and it gives you a much more immerisive feeling.
But none of this is going to change civ3 of course

Are you sure you're using MICROSOFT windows? If you've had no trouble with alt-tab, I don't think you're using genuine Microsoft products . . .

But why can't the game have its own window interface to allow me to move around the maps and status windows. No need for the taskbar. I always alt tab. (I guess I learnt to use that command from Windows 3.1 )

i agree that winblows is $hit, and i'd rather used debian 24/7, but winE and other windows emulators dont work well for games, so i keep winblows on my b0x just for games.
when (if?) the linux port comes out i'll be sure to get a copy.
maybe the linux port will have multiplayer

I have every right to complain about a thread topic as everyone has a right to complain about whatever they want. I'm not missing the point of forums at all.
When did I ever say that everyone should adjust to my standards?
I knew that even after my post, people would continue to whine. Whining is an essential part of forums. But I'm also allowed to voice my discontent at it as well. I'm sure other people are annoyed too.
It's not just this topic I'm referring to. It's others that go on and on about insignificant aspects of the game. Of course I don't have to read it. I don't read all the threads. And I didn't even notice this thread until I saw that there were over 20 responses to it. I thought something important was being discussed, such as the nature of how Windows as an OS is bad or something. But no, it was about an insignificant little thing that just shows you how lazy people are.

Try WinXP then you wont have many problems more (if any at all), I use it and I have only had ONE problem with it and that was because I installed and unofficial driver to my voodoo card...And I'm extremely good at making computers crash, haven't succeded in doing that yet

In about a month, nobody is going to remember if the game is windowed or not. Besides, if it benefits graphics, then full-screen all the way! I'd play standing up-side down if it helped in any way.

TBS games pretty much should ALL be taskable, as these kinds of games can take a while to play through to completion.
