Why the Neanderthal should be in the Civ expansion pack
The reasons are clear:
- They were a large, streching from Germany to Ethiopia and from France to Mongolia, civilization
- It is a PC thing too: We, the bloody Homo Sapiens have forced them into extinction. We own them something
- They are fun (just check out MacTbone's incarnation of the Neanderthal civ)
- They have the simpliest language (the vocabulary is quite simple - for instance "aaarrggh" was widely used as a verb and a noun, with several meanings like "eat" "piss off" "no, this female is mine" "I seen this cave first" or "your mommas, it's MY bone")
- I just had to do this, since every other contestant in that poll seems to have a "why" thread devoted to it.
Vote for Neanderthal, people, keep the flame alive!

Anyway, the Neanderthals probably had a highly-developed language.

According to Jean M. Auel they had a highly developed sign language.
They are also supposed to have had knowledge of herbal medicine and stonecutting, and very basically of counting, the calendar and fire.

There ya go, Ubik.
Thanks to you we will soon have a whole Neanderthal-support community. The first expansion back should have them, Pitecantropus, Australopitecus and Home Erectus as well. Plus Dinosaurs (I bet Sid will go for it ) and Planet of Apes! Yeah

You people are such vertebratists!
Giant squid should get a civ as well. I suggest that they are industrious ( lots of tentacles make light work) and scientific ( big eyes to examine things with).

Why not just add 'Hydrogen' to the list of civs while you are at it? It has been around a lot longer than anything else mentioned.
Oh, and space/time too...

Of course! But with my cartillege endoskeleton, isn't that "almost" a vertebrate?

You atomist! You ONLY vote for things consisting of atoms, just because YOU consist of atoms. Vote for the Photons and Neutrinos!
