Limited Edition in UK
Is it possible to buy/pre order the limited Edition version in the UK? I've checked Amazon.co.uk with no luck so far.
I could really do with a cool tin to put my teabags in

Last I checked Infogrames UK were "in Negotiation" to bring them in Q1 2002. Demand seems to be outstripping supply for them, though, so I doubt the worldwide supply (75.000, most are already gone in Preorder) will last that long.
I'm taking no chances and ordering mine directly from the States.

Typical English behavior.
I think an amphora could be nice for the LE.

Is that pre-ordered from Amazon.com? Works out at about $77.
My 1977 Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Tea Bag Tin has started to show signs of rust and this would be an ideal replacement.
Still it's a little on the steep side price wise.
What's its value going to be in 25 years time?

Depends if the game will be a classic or not.
Let's see... $77 is about £50 or thereabouts. So that's £15 or £20 so for a Biscuit tin. Slightly overpriced, but I'm sure the European version of LE won't be much cheaper (guess: £44.99).
Heck, if it was any other game I'd wait or buy the Standard. But Civ3 is Civ3. I even got this gig writing news for a Civ3 site. I figure I gotta repay them in some way.
(Of course if you order via Amazon.com, which seems the cheapest stateside option right now (about $5 cheaper than Chips 'n' Bits, about $20 cheaper than ebworld), you should do so via the links in our Civ3 section. That way a portion of the sale will go towards this site).

What about the P&P from the states, how much is that for the LE? Surely it is a lot.

$35 from EB - $8 from Amazon... varies.
This is if you're in Europe.

Hmmm... will I be able to buy the LE from stores? Or will it be out by then? I hope not.

Well I have resigned myself to the fact that I will probably not get the limited edition; funds are too tight. I will have to make do with the standard edition (or go to visit Snapcase in York and steal his LE )

Me too,
Especially since Dan confirmed the existence of a manual of 235 pages.

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered the LE edition from Chips 'n Bits. Cost $72 to be sent to Argentina where I'm currently based. I just hope the tin doesn't get mashed by the postal system or end up in some Barrio

Bloody hell! What a manual! Jeez!
Civ II's manual has 196 numbered pages,
so it's going to be 39 pages more in Civ III.
I can't say anything else than: Well done Firaxis!.

Well, they've gotta cover Culture, Resources, Small Wonders, Unique Units, Civilization Specific Abilities, Golden Ages....
That plus what was in Civ 2 plus all the changes that i've forgotten
