Why Talossa SHOULD be in the expansion pack
Most people don't know that eastern Milwaukee is it's own nation. It's true! In December 1979, a 13-year-old student named Robert Ben Madison peacefully broke off from the United States. Since then, the nation has flourished into it's own culture and even has its own language! It has become the model for so many other micronations and is currently the most popular and most populous of them. From the official food of the nation (Taco Bell) to the strange, overly accented Glhetg Talossán (Talossan Language) to the supposed Berber Project, the nation has acquired a distinct and beautiful culture on the shore of Lake Michigan, and this nation deserves to be put into the Civ III expansion pack!

From http://frenette.qc.ca/talossa/files/kingdom/index.html :

On 26 December 1979 Robert Ben Madison, a 13-year old high school student in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, declared his bedroom to be an independent sovereign state: the Kingdom of Talossa. He took the Throne as King Robert I. Beginning in 1981, other people were admitted to the RT (Regipäts Talossán; Kingdom of Talossa) as citizens. Democratic elections began in 1981 and the country became a constitutional monarchy in 1985. After a period of crisis in 1986-1988 over who should be King, a new Constituziun was written in late 1988. The 1997 Organic Law was approved as the country's new constitution by a public referendum. It further develops the democratic nature of Talossa.

Since 1979 Madison has continued in a prominent role, as King and as a leading light in the Progressive Conservative Party, but other citizens have also assumed prominent roles. Indeed, the Organic Law now prohibits the King from holding the chief offices of political power in Talossa.

P.S. This post is not to be taken seriously. It is just a satirical work to show people that a case CAN be made for nearly everything that even remotely resembles a culture, and that an expansion pack cannot possibly come anywhere close to representing every distinct culture and history, or even those most 'important' ones, however you define an important culture.

Hear, hear, I fully agree! 32 civs and non of them a micronation? That's unacceptable! But Sealand should also be included:
Quote:
Sealand was founded as a sovereign Principality in 1967 in international waters, six miles off the eastern shores of Britain. The island fortress is conveniently situated from 65 to 100 miles from the coasts of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The official language of Sealand is English and the Sealand Dollar has a fixed exchange rate of one U.S. dollar. Passports and stamps have been in circulation since 1969, however, contrary to many misleading websites and news articles, Sealand passports are not for sale, and anyone offering such are selling forgeries. Within a radius of 500 miles of Sealand live more than 200 million people who enjoy some of the highest standards of living in the world. This area also encompasses the financial, industrial and cultural heart of Europe.
[...]
The history of Sealand is a story of a struggle for liberty. Sealand was founded on the principle that any group of people dissatisfied with the oppressive laws and restrictions of existing nation states may declare independence in any place not claimed to be under the jurisdiction of another sovereign entity. The location chosen was Roughs Tower, an island fortress created in World War II by Britain and subsequently abandoned to the jurisdiction of the High Seas. The independence of Sealand was upheld in a 1968 British court decision where the judge held that Roughs Tower stood in international waters and did not fall under the legal jurisdiction of the United Kingdom. This gave birth to Sealand's national motto of E Mare Libertas, or "From the Sea, Freedom".
[...]
Gradually, over the years, Sealand has become increasingly secure and internationally accepted. More and more, the international Lawyers and other Jurists stated that Sealand fulfilled all the legal requirements of a State and that the Sovereignty of Sealand was absolute and unquestionable. The major states of Europe have now accepted this as a fact.

I'm glad that Civ 3 decided to put in less civs rather than more. IMO, CTP had waaaaaaaaaaay too many civs. Sorry, but Canadians, Jamaicans, Mexicans, etc. aren't exactly important civs. (Neither is the US, but it has a huge impact in the world today and must be kept in. I know people are gonna argue about this, but I don't care.) Instead, Firaxis focused on quality civs, and though I don't really care much for the animated leaders, the unique units and attributes are good. And people will of course be able to create their own civs, so if you want Canada or Mexico, you can have it.

Yes

More important is the balance between the civs, as opposed to having an enormous number of them. The more civs there are, the less distinct they can be from one another.
