ORiginal NES
SO we have anyone out there that still plays original nes games besides myself? any old tetris lovers (or anyone who is actually enchanted by the music [or am I a complete nut?]?).
I had gotten a game called Shadowgate many years ago. every heard of it? ever played it? if so, how do you get past to forking front door!! lol! i can never figure out how. If you haven't heard of it, it's kind of a predecessor to Final Fantasy, i think.

I downloaded a NES Emulator, and played a FF1 rom for half a minute before remembering how old and shity it is, a few weeks ago...

By the way, the original NES controlers had pointy corners and where a pain in the arse to hold.

pointy corners
yeah..but b/c they were so small, nothing got hurt if you threw them out of frustration. sometimes it's that simplicity that makes everything ok and worthwhile. come on, nobody's cuter than lil mario! and blasting away those annoying ducks in duck hunt! ack!! too fun!

I remember the anticiaption I felt the Christmas I asked for the NES machine.

It was a great Christmas, my whole family sat around and played Super Mario all daylong. Hmmm, it's one of those things that I really liked about that machine.

Did you ever play Dragon Warrior? I think that's the games name. Or Zelda... great times.

I tired an emulator, and lets just say the games were better in my memory.

I used to play Tetris a lot, not any more though. That music is fantastic - I love it. IIRC it's a Russian folk song.

well, if it wasn't a russian folk song, it sure sounded like it. I actually became obssessed with the third choice of songs it offered. It was very ethereal sounding.
I never played Dragon Warrior, but i DID play zelda and still have it (although both [we have 2 working nes systems] are at my parents place). I usually played the "girlie" games like Yoshi's cookie, dr. mario, mario 2, tetris, and some bowling game. There was a game called Chysalis i played alot too. I play Kirby's Pinball Land on my original gameboy that i have with me at college all the time. i can't fit a real pin machine in my hole in the wall room.

ah, memories
my old NES system gave up the ghost many years ago, but brought much entertainment to the family. taking turns in mario to see how far we could get as a group, watching dad shoot from the hip and wasting stacks of ducks....

Do you know they pirated everything?

Years ago there were these NES ROMs sold around street corners that contained tens or even hundreds of NES games. These games each cost about 1/100 of legal ones.

My old NES bit the dust long ago and I didn't there was a chance in the world that there were many left that actually functioned any more. Then I went to college. Two of the guys that live on my floor brought their NES that work.

All the old Mario, Zelda, Duckhunt, and original FF games have been played in great abundance. I actually missed the old graphics and sound with some great gameplay. Because back in the day it was all about game play and I really do miss that.

gee
so i guess i should feel lucky to have 2 working systems! lol! I remember when i was in third grade and mario 3 was the rage. i still had yet to get a nintendo period! ack!!
i stayed up last night for shits and giggles and played Kirby's Pin Ball land. Put out a shitty score, but i haven't been playing much since school started. I have to agree that computer versions of NES games suck. I remember playing Tetris on the computer and wanting to die because there wasn't any music nor did i have as much control over the piece. Perhaps that's why i've always perferred video games to computer games.
UR: so the pirated versions ended up in the shops in the malls?

two regular NES. My parents never let us upgrade above that...so that ALL we have. so at the same time it's admirable that we have 2, it's also pathetic.

Well...NES was an 8-bit machine...SNES was a 16-bit machine...so if you had two NES'...you could take 8 bits from one machine...and put it in the other...thus creating your own 16-bit machine...
BTW...the fact that you missed out on SNES...doesn't make you pathetic...

They tried a few years ago to make a system entitled the Jaguar (around 94 or 95 IIRC), didn't do very well. They went into basically software, reselling old games like Frogger and some others. Now, Infogrames owns the rights to Atari and all their stuff, so beginning either this Fall or in the Spring all North American games from Infogrames are going to be under the Atari label because it is more recognized.

I am amazed that you have two NES, lucky bast...

Tniem: well..technically i am a ...... Thing is, my mom has both system capitive at her house..plus, my lil bro and sis need something to play on too. Yes, they are regularly used in the house. THe oldest one, min, i've had...over 10 years. more like 11 or 12. and it works good. yesterday i remembered a game i have that most people won't remember, but the character might bring back memories, especially if you're from the US. I had a game Called Yo Noid. Remember that pizza hut or dominoes commercial character called the Noid?? lol! The guy in the red suit with bunny ears??? Anyway, he runs around new york city zapping mobsters with his yo-yo ( ) and has pizza eating contests. it's rather amusing. WHo remembers all the Castlevanias??? How many did they end up putting out anyway?

I would say the playstation 1 isn't more advanced than the N64. They are about on par with each other.

I messed with an NES emulator last year. It was fun for a while, but then I realised just how much better today's PC games are, and how much gaming time I was wasting on that NES stuff.

didn't castelvania make their own cartoon at one point?

Why would one prefer the N64 if playstation has the upperhand. Is it just me, or it ps2 not THAT much more advanced than PS! outside of the dvd player and minutely improved graphics.
See, i don't see how computer games are better than video games for the sole reason that i have a really hard time playing with a keyboard as opposed to a controler. can't say the graphics are better on either because both have pretty bad ones and good ones.
