On what level will you play your first game?
I plan to play on King in my first game. I know I'll be making lots of mistakes, but I don't want to be instantly crushed. Hopefully, a fun challenging game will be in store (no pun intended ) for me on Oct. 30!

I chose Warlord just so I can get a sense of the game, but since I have been a civer ever since Civ1 came out, I might choose to go higher.

I'm telling myself warlord, but I'll probably risk something higher when I've actually got the game in front of me... Oh glorious day.

Chieftain. Civ III will be a completely new game, so I probably won't be able to play on the levels I do in Civ II right away. I want to survive long enough to learn the basics of the game.

DEITY!!
If I win: I can boast, the AI is poop, and I can take it back to the shop
If I lose, the game might be worth exploring a bit.

Prince or King are nice and normal difficulty levels. I won't mind losing either.
I'm definitely going to play 16 civs, earth map the first time out, probably the Germans too, so I'm right in the thick of things. No civ-specials.
Then maybe the Egyptians, so I have the entire mediterranean coast to colonize, and then down towards etheopia.
Or the English, cause it's always nice to have that big old island to yourself.
I'm excited about this game.

I really hope I lose my first game, then I'll know that this game will be a real challenge.

I'll have to try harder than I usually do when playing Civ games (I'm used to CtP2 fgs...) , but with the AI busy sorting its resources, diplomacy etc. Once I control unhappiness, dump into nationalism and go all-out war, I think (and hope) winning won't be as difficult as some people imagine.

Either king or emperor. I'm absolutely sure I'll lose badly, playing on these levels, but that doesn't usually bother me -- I like games where the competition is very strong.

Deity.
I actually like being wiped out, fighting for every city, for every mountain, destroying all my roads to delay the enemy's invasion, sending out ships with settlers, hoping to find an uninhabited island or friendly nation where I can settle before my homeland is destroyed... I don't care if (when) I lose, as long as I have fun!
(yes I have been playing too much CTP2 )

Deity. Let's see if the AI even puts up a fight or if I have to hand over all my techs just to get a real war started.

Prince, It is a medium level. If I lose the game will be a real challenge, if I fail to finish I guess the game will be challenging enough. If I win I'll spend my coming games as deity.

Prince: I don't want to be completely outclassed, when unfamiliar with all the new aspects, but I want some challenge because it's not too much fun to get all the rewards without much work.

Prince, largest earth map, 16 civs, probably as Russians or Persians. King is the level where the AI doesn't have advantages or disadvantages (except for stupidity ), so I'll play the one just below that the first time. I don't care if I lose, but I hope I still last till the end (2050).

well I can win 95% of games in Emperor and around 80% in Deity.
I'd go for King in Civ 3 but since the game will have so many new features that I want to learn I'll propably choose prince.
Greeks, random normal size map, all features on, max civs and barbarians to the max as always

Prince, because there need to be some challenge.
My very first game of Civwas on chieftain and I won hopelessly, reaching the maximum number of cities and vainly looking for the last civ, which was refounded on some island in an ocean. That is not interesting, and I want my first experience with CivIII intersting not just a way to get to know the interface.

Deity, its the only way to find out if they really improved the AI. If I get destroyed, then firaxis has done well. If not, then I'll wait for MP to play a challenging opponent.

Those of you who are planning on playing Deity right away: prepare to lose. Even if the new AI has an adequate grasp on the strategy of the new features, that is a tremendous advantage for it over you who have not yet become acquainted with them.
