Is This Pollution?
Look at what is outlined in red in the picture below, and also check the appropriate image on the civ3.com gallery (page 4, 2nd down on left). There appears to be some white, fluffy stuff around this square, and this can also be seen on another square on the coast just above Tours. This is in the industrial age and there is nothing else I could see it could be. Are these polluted tiles, represented with the skulls on Civ2?

No, these are fireworks, showing we love the king day. Dan confirmed it quite a while ago.

Maybe since we don't see any pollution on the screen, it is the AI's. That would be awesome, since the AI cheated and never produced pollution in Civ II.

That bugged me too. Global warming was caused by any pollution, even nuclear pollution. I think you should have a global warming and a nuclear winter meter, so if you balance them out, you should stay fine
Uh-oh, global warming is going up. Looks like I have to nuke someone. Take THAT, Tenochtitlán!

IIRC, there was one of those "cans" outside of Berlin, so it must be a new luxury resource: beer
I don't think a trash can would make a very good symbol for pollution. I think it should be a gray cloud. And it should definitely be different from nuclear pollution, for which an atom would make a neat symbol.

I don't recall seeing that, maybe that's it. But if it's from early screenshots, it might not be the exact same symbol now.

If pollution was represented by trash cans that would be really stupid. I think the system is find as it is, but it would be kind of neat if nuke pollution and regular pollution were different. Though why in the world would nuking someone balance out global warming.

I'll spare you more pain. IIRC, it's an acronym for If I Recall Correctly. Took me two months to figure it out.

We know climatic systems are non-linear.

Yes, I know. After the second sentence in that post, I was being sarcastic.

Umm...Nuclear Winter and Global Warming are essentially the same thing. The only reason that the temperatures go different directions is the rate of doing such a thing: Nuclear bombs do so much, so fast, that they skip over the warming phase and go right into global cooling (the phase after any global warming) and possibly an Ice Age.
Methinks somebody has been watching too much Futurama ..
