Civ 1 was approximately released about 10 years ago.
Being an old civ veteran I had a nagging feeling Civ3 would be released around end oct/nov. The reason? Simple, it would be just in time for the 10th anniversary of civ. Civ1 was released officiallly around nov in 1991 but it had some last minute graphic changes.
Here's a quick snapshot of the 'almost final' version of Civ1. Please note this footage hasn't been seen in 10 years. I think it's time I did a recap of civ, look for a column in the near future with more classic screenshots.

*nostalgia trip*
That looks considerably different to the actual version of civ1. It appears to be some kind of precursor to an ancient republic screen with Stalin in charge. Yet it doesn't look like Stalin and the ancient republic background is outdoors in an ancient-y Rome place, the foreign advisor looks the same, military advisor is different, and the domestic advisor was a woman in civ1. Obviously needed their quotient of sexual equality And the science advisor looked like a big beardy wiseman in a toga, with very little hair atop

I never got to play the original Civilization, but I did manage to find a ROM and emulator for it somewhere on the net. I don't know where it is right now, or if I still even have it. But I did get a chance to start the game up and see the opening sequence and the in-game options.
I think the version may have been for one of the older Nintendo consoles, or some other brand of console- it definately wasn't the PC version.

AUGH! My eyes hurt. I'm at a loss to figure out where he got that, but it's bring back all the memories of typing class and my old computers.

I agree with Vetlegion - That is definately not the PC version! (cetainly not the version I played in 1991)
The screen shot looks like it comes from a TV not a PC monitor.

Civ 3 10 years ago?? I got into civ about 9 years ago, a year after it was released, as id heard a few good reviews about it, and saw it at a reduced price somewhere. I was young then 5 years after that, i was still playing it. I actually got up for school 3 hours early just so i could play civ for those 3 hours each morning

I also played on a black and white laptop, but I was running off of solar power in the West African bush. I wonder if I had the only copy in Africa. Hmmm....

I got CIV 1 when it first came out - but for over three months it sat on my shelf collecting dust!
Once I finally installed and played it for the first time I realised what an idiot I had been
In the UK you normally only get three years at University, a period in your life with no major responsiblities and lots of free time.
WHAT A WASTE!!!!! neally 10% of my time as a student when I had the opportunity but didnt play CIV

Didn't you get these greek dudes, when you were a civ without invention but with democracy OR republic? (which would not be necessary in Civ I, because you could stay in despotism without any problems)

Not as depicted in the screen shot (PC version)
The screenshot has a totally different drawn style from what I remember.
- On the PC version You had the face of the leader you were talking to and arround the leader would be a number of advisors depending on how powerful he/she was.

No, these are screenshots from a final beta review for the PC (MS-DOS). For some reason the graphics were changed at the last moment (some mysteries will never be solved ).
P.S
MarkG and DanQ can confirm these pictures are genuine. I sent them the evidence a few weeks ago.
