help- WinG load failure. Error: 2

AHHHH!

hello,

recently my harddrive began to go bad and so was replaced. The service people were able to salvage almost all of my data but windows itself had been partially in one of the sectors of the drive that went bad, so there were some severe program problems before the drive was replaced.

anyways, since the drive was replaced I have not been able to get CivII to work.
I continually get this
WinG load failure. Error: 2 "box"

I even attempted to reinstall the entire civII trilogy of cd's, but this did not remedy the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you reinstall WinG, iirc it is not installed together with the game.

what is winG? I had thought that it might be part of windows or something...

I did not know that it was something that needed to be installed.

WinG is a driver for graphics that is made for windows 3.1, long before DirectX even existed. It should be on the Civ2 CD. Also reinstall Video for Windows.
