Terrain Question
Does anybody know how many different types of terrain there will be?

I think civ 2 only had 10 (desert, plains, grassland, tundra, glacier, forest, swamp, jungle, hills, mountains).

Does any one know of any more? how editable(?) are they etc. (I would like to have suburb and urban terrains, but nothing has been seen on any screenshots).

Flood plains (found in a screenshot)
Either it is a new tile type or it is the designation of another type of tile with a river on it.

Looks like there are multiple types of forest. Not just in old screenshots, but also in new: http://www.multiplayer.it/show.php3?...500/s_img5.jpg

There are now three types of ocean: coastal, seas and oceans.

They affect where early ships can travel. Triremes can only travel on coasts and caravels can travel on seas and coasts.

Building the Lighthouse minor wonder increases the safety net so triremes can travel on coastal waters and seas, and caravels can go anywhere.

I'd also expect that there will be some difference in what can be harvested from the squares, but nothing has been said.

It will be great to have the different forest types, ala Colonization.

Types of terrain is interesting, but what about types of terrain improvements?
