Where'd the CGO First Game Review Go!
Hey - I followed the link Dan provided on the CivIII news page, and the quotes from Bob Mayer weren't there. I then went to their strategy forum, and it appears they had to pull the comments off the site

Can anybody confirm this, or am I just hallucinating

Damn, I really would like to see this preliminary report on our mutual obsession

hehe. Firaxogrames had stated before that there weren't supposed to be ANY reviews of the game before the 22nd. This punk decided to do one anyhow. Maybe that explains it.

Link to previous discussion on this topic. This is the one you are talking about, right?

Thanks.

However, the one I was talking about wasn't Sid's et. al. interview, but Mayer's comments. Obviously he stepped out of line and pi**ed Firaxis off

I wonder why Firaxis is keeping such a tight lid now that Civ3 has gone gold.

What Are They Hiding !

P.S. I tried to check this post yesterday about ten minutes after I posted it, and couldn't find it at all --- Darned server glitches.

You didn't get this from me, understand?

Quote:
I played my first actual game of Civ III last night, though I wasn't able to print out the 250 page manual, so I don't have a great grasp on all the rules yet. Got my butt kicked on the lowest difficulty level .

The addition of things like borders, cultural spheres of influence, the revamped combat, the radically different way you support troops and handle trade, etc.--all of these things put some very real twists on how you play the game. If you are a Civ/Civ II vet you'll be able to jump in and play, but chances are, not too well at first without some trial and error.

The interface, graphics, and overall look is so superior to earlier Civs that even if they had done very little tweaking this would still be worthwhile to pick up. As it stands, it seems like a very logical evolution of the series. It is far from being just Civ II with better looks IMO.

It's not revolutionary. It's not supposed to be. It's Civ. Bigger, better, better looking, but Civ. And from my experience, so far, it nails that pretty damn well.

Don't you want there to be some surprises when the game comes out? I wanna be playing and go, "oh wow, that's really cool!"

nope...i hate surprises, i despise surprises...if surprise was a person i would beat it to death then spit on its broken corpse

the last time i was truly suprised, was when i was five and i got a calculator for christmas
since then i have always figured out all of my christmas and birthday presents

so i hope the reviews of Civ3 tell us EVERYTHING about the game

Developers and Game Distributors usually negotiate with game magazine exclusive agreements about official info. It already happened months ago with first official screenshots and someone (Dan?) from Firaxis stressed this point.

It's marketing, my friend But you can relief your stress with a countdown to the release day. Hmmm, may be not.

'

You are a truly disturbed fellow, Korn.

But I love the anticipation before the game. And anyway, you said you just never are surprised. I'm sure you will be now so isn't that a good thing?
