Hi all!
I traced my order at amazon.com 1 minute ago, and the info that came up was this:
Item Availability: 1 to be released: October 31, 2001
Expected Ship Date: Oct 18, 2001
Estimated Delivery: Oct 25, 2001 - Oct 31, 2001
Which means it will be shipped on oct 18 and received in my moist hands on oct 25, which is great news!!

civ3.com, has a countdown on their splash page that says 13 days until release, so i'm doubting that stores will have civ3 today. but that might not stop me from going to compusa today anyway.

As long as I'm the first to get the game in the mighty kingdom of Norway, I'm happy! Anyway, it seems that I'll get it around it's actual US release date... which still is oct 31 as far as I understand. Fortunately I work on a freelance basis, so I can stay up all night playing Sid Meier's CIVILIZATION III!!!

I was met with blank faces - so they checked their list and.......
it said the 16th November
This is at odds with the press release that stated the release date for the UK and the US was the 30th October
...so I am still going to expect to get my copy on the 30th
(blind faith and a total disregard of the facts will get me through )

Re: Re: For all you Brits out there...
Apart from amazon with their bizarre 28th Dec every other UK online retailer has the 16th Nov too which is very worrying as not only do they all agree but that is a Friday - games are *always* released in the UK on Friday.
So what is happening to all those precious Civ3 CDs between arriving in the UK on the 30th Oct (according to Firaxis) and arriving on UK shop shelves on the 16th Nov ??
Maybe it takes 16 days to put them in to the UK box?

You people are wasting time and fooling yourselves. The earliest the game will be released will be the 31st.
The 17th date was an old projection that was changed over a month ago to the 31st.

This doesn't mean that a few retailers here and there don't get the latest word and sell it early. I'm not sure if they face penalties for selling early, but most managers would rather have new merchandise out on the floor and not cluttering up the storeroom.

While I admire the faith, I think you guys are being a weeeeeee bit delusional.
Even if the game ships from the manufacturer on the 18th, you're not getting on the 25th. First the distributor you ordered from has to get it, then they ship it to you.
Regardless, they probably have specific instructions from Infogames not to ship anything until the 30th. So those of us who preordered it by mail may not see until November.

I just called EB and Civ is on target for the 31st
My heart jumped when I saw the boxes at Best Buy yesterday, but alas, how disapointed I was when I realized they were fake.

No I wish. I'm just about to go out to the bank and get some US dollars for my trip and then it's off to the game store to check on Civ3's availability. If it's in.......well you know I'll buy it. I'll even try to see if it works on my ancient Pentium 233??? That's if it's in. I had a night to sleep on it an I suspect it's like everyone has been saying a misprint BUT......

...and if you do get it today, you better do the honourable thing and come on here and tell us all, and not go and play the game selfishly!

I doubt it's a misprint. As I've said before, the 17th was the projected date until about a month ago or so.
They have either:
1) Not heard of the change
2) Decided to leave it (notice it says "date subject to change") to create interest
3) Were notified of the change but were either too lazy or inept to change the date

Regardless, this is definately a mistake. I would be willing to bet money that you won't be playing CIV III tonight.
...and if you do, I'm coming over!

*sniff* It looks like your Compusmart is just behind, Simpleton. I called the 2 down here, they both list it officially as the 31st like everyone else. Though the shipping guy at one store (Hey, I shop there a lot, I know everyone) said that to get it for the 31st, it'd probably have to arrive on the Friday shipment before, so you might be able to pry it out of them on the 26th. I got him to agree to hide me a copy and call me when it comes in.
PS: You're the first person I've EVER heard refer to it as "The mall on 170th". Though it's probably the one place I could find without a map, other than baseball diamonds.

I sure hope so! If it doesn't come in on the 26th, the next normal shipment wouldn't be until the 31st, which would mean the 1st for shelves. How could they DARE be a day late?!

It is my hope against hope that those of us who preordered might get a couple of days before it hits store shelves.
I would hate to see people buying it in the stores while I dejectedly await my package from amazon.com...grrrrr

www.eb.uk.com still claim that Civilisation 3 will be released on 16/11/2001. But then they also claim that Civillisation 3 (yes, two 'l's) will be released on 16/11/2001 at a price TBC, and that Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will be released 16/11/2001, but on another page claim it's in stock - so I just don't know.
