Music makes the game.
The music I heard in the four in-game movies @ CivFanatics was kick ass! The "tribal" type music in ancient times, and more advanced music as you go along...nice. I think the music will go a long way toward drawing into the experience. Graphics and sound aren't the most important thing, but I think the overall presentation of the game looks great.

Yes, it is very good I might actually listen to it more than once
They did a great job on setting the mood with the music- each civ type (European, American, Asian, etc..) gets their own themes, and these themes morph throughout the ages, and are heard during diplomacy.

I suppose you're talking about Civ2. Won't you even give Civ3 music a chance?

I listen to "my type" of music in the car and whatnot, but well composed music adds to the game experience quite a bit.

voiceovers will not make this game
good music, good sounds; no extended voiceovers, no in-game movies to "distract" the player: these are details, of course, next to the gameplay mechanics and the AI. But I know I'll miss the cutted details.

The music sounds sweet, & it adds a lot to the atmosphear too, much more than the music in other games.

I certainly agree that music plays a role. In Civ-2, there was 2-3 tunes that was so annoying that I always prefered to play without music alltogether. Somehow the random tune generator always seemed to pick those 2-3 tunes particularly often.
It would be a big improvement if the indevidual tunes is available as separate files (and/or indevidually blockable through the preference-screen), so one easily could delete/mute those that one dont like. The Civ-3 tunes that I have heard so far have been good however.
In my view, the old adventure-game "Little Big Adventure" is one of the best examples what really good background-music can add to a game.

I will eventually tire of the jingle anyway... be it sooner or later.
A particularly horrendous example comes to mind, however: the music of Colonization! I swear I've never heard such ugly, intrusive tunes from any other computer game.

what's really bad is you keep playing the same album for hours while playing the game...
so when you hear that album or music somewhere else your brain suddenly thinks:"uh oh shouldn't I be playing... " or the image of the game flashes into your head...

I won´t miss the wonder movies, but if there are no voiceovers when I´ve researched a new tech, I´m going to miss them (really liked them in SMAC). IIRC, nothing has been confirmed so far about voiceovers.

I certainly add some favourite music from Civ2, hopefully the classics like "Augustus Rises" will be in for a third successive Civ.
I would like a mix of mood music, based on either the civ I am playing as (e.g Rule Britannia as the English) or the era I am playing. Possible play something moodful like Mars from Holst's planet suite when a major war has been declared.
