Civ3.com Countdown
Everytime I visit civ3.com there is that stupid countdown to release mocking me and every non-US customer. Why in an age of globalisation and mass marketing do US game companies still think they can ignore and belittle us poor suckers in the rest of the world?
Ideally I'd like a second non-US countdown on the official game site as well, how hard would that be?
Oh, and don't give me the old "Firaxis say Civ 3 will be out everywhere on the same day." They know less than we do of what Infogrames is planning.

I got to tell you Crouchback, my heart goes out to all you non-North Americans who won't be getting the game at the same time as us.

I don't feel sorry at all. Computer game snobs who look down upon console games may not care about this, but I have to wait *many* months before a release of a Japanese game gets translated into English and it's not that big of a deal to me.

And besides, according to Civ3.com, I thought it was going to be released in the U.K. and U.S. at the same time anyway.

Yeah, but they have to be translated. There is some doubt that we may see a non-US English version of Civ 3 before spring of next year, Infogrames is saying they only plan to release the same version on 16/11.
And anyway, I'll live with the release date so long as it's not to long. It's the mocking US-centric countdown that is driving me up the wall.

This countdown is very real. It indicates when our pre-orders get mailed and Civ3 becomes available to downloaders. I ordered my copy, but if non-Americans need to wait weeks and months, they will pirate. Maybe they'll buy it as it becomes available, maybe not. But the game will become available on 30 Oct.

You know, that makes it so sad. It's just not fair that (non-American) people who are really looking forward to actually holding the box in their hands (and playing of course) will not be able to do so until the evil software-pirateers have already played it for weeks.
Sniff...

I'd say, don't care so much about that!
We will get reviews anyway on that date, so I'm interwested in the release date wherew it is released first, then here in Norway!

Hey...take that evil word out of there, we're not evil, we're only defending ourselfes from the waiting time til games comes out in Europe
If I can't find the game in the stores October 30th I will surely use every means possible to get the pirated version. And if the game isn't released within 2 weeks of the US release date I don't have any money to buy the game (From that time I have to spend all my money on christmas/birtday presents ), this means I can't get the game before Christmas if they release it that late

I disagree! I will refuse to read ANY reviews of CIV 3... I don't want my game spoiled... I've already read too many PREviews. I want to open the box, install the game and just play it. Reviews will probably be positive, but there's always some moaners and whiners and I don't wanna hear anything bad about CIV3...

the availiability is a different issue
even in the US, it wont be everywhere on all cities and all stores....

Why are all you Europe people complaining.
I live in the US, but have to wait till the mac version comes out. So, its gonna be more than a few months wait. More like a year. Imagin that. Everyone in the world gets to play civ3 and all I get are screenshots and strats which I wont even understand since I wont get the game till like next year.

Agreed, you brought this one on yourself by contributing to the funding of apple which only makes the continue producing substandard products at high prices.
"Apple are a good choice for gaming or non-intensive begining users" - Someone, somewhere. What a bunch of crap. Apple are good for nothing and no one. As soon as people stop buying their products they will start making them better and revamp the operating system so it isn't even worse that windows.
Then we'd have an operating system that could run things which wasn't windows?
Why not get linux? Cause jack **** runs on it
Anyway, ranting aside........

Thank dainbramaged13, your humanity gets me right here *points to backside*.
But I know the date we'll get the game differs from release, I'll be lucky to get it from amazon within three days of the game coming out. What gets me is the stupid clock which takes no account of the decision not to release the same game on the same day the world over.

People did stop buying Mac, and they did what you suggested.
OSX, iMac, G4 Cube... They are all over the place now because they're soooooooo cool. I wonder why PCs still look like 1981 Xerox photocopiers.

If you wanted your computer to look different, just buy a new case. They make many different one now-a-days, although they cost more than standard cases. I dont know why anyone would care how their case looks though

Ah the 'I buy a Mac because they look pwetty' crowd. Aesthetics have nothing to do with this, I want the superior computer. You can hide a tower under the table.
And yes, I will not be pleased if I have to wait nearly 3 weeks to get hold of the game in this country. Until it is released, it will be warez here I come...

I suppose you care about the look of your dress, home furnitures, car... I'm not speaking about forced/induced fashion false needs, I'm speaking about visual satisfaction you get from a product, when it already fit the original purpose.
You usually spend good cash for an object as appealing as a "lemon box". The whole Industrial Design concept exist around this argument. But we are digressing.
Well, it seems the start of similar debate on graphics role in TBS as Civ III Noooo, not another one, I beg you!
Edited: and this was my last post... as Prince
Funny, I almost never really checked for my forum rank, until a few days ago I realized I'll be promoted King just before the Civ III release: that will be a bunch of days before my next birthday, too. Call it a lucky coincidence!

There's a countdown on Civ3.com?
OT:
IMO, a computer looks the coolest with the case taken off
And if you really care about how your pc case looks, you can have it modded for $50-$100 with LED's, fans and paint

If you buy a Dell 8100, you get the best of both worlds. It looks different from all the boring 1980-style computers and you still get a quality machine My computer looks nice and runs flawlessly
EDIT: Looks don't matter, just like size doesn't matter
