When will preorders arrive?
Not that I really care, but is it assumed that outfits like amazon and ebgames will receive the game on Oct 30 to ship out? For example, amazon is saying a Nov 1 ship date which would make sense. I'm wondering if ebgames (or perhaps others) will receive the game before Oct 30.
I can see it now, many folks will walk down to their nearest Best Buy or Babbages and get the game on Oct 30 while those who preordered will have to wait a few days. In the meantime, they will fill up the board with "WHERE IS MY $!#@^% PREORDER???" threads.

i was planning on walking to EB and buying the first day...then when i get my pre-order, returning the store bought one and get my refund
...problems solved
only one question: will EB give me my money back at the store, or just store credit?

EB still says that they are "shipping" on 10/30, which means with overnite shipping, I should get the game sometime during the day on Wednesday (Halloween). I have been burnt in the past by pre-ordering, but I guess I haven't learned my lesson. Having it at my door when I get home on Wednesday should allow an extra hour of game time that I would have spent going and getting the game, but it better be there or I'll be pissed!

If the info on EBGames.com is accurate, I should get my copy on November 1st.

Pre-ordered but . . . .
I pre-ordered but I'm in Korea so I probably won't receive mine until the middle of November. Or the end of November if the customs guys decide they want to be the first in Korea to play Civ3.

It could be worse. I could have no credit card to use on Internet shopping sites and then have to wait for Civ3 to be released here in Korea.
I was joking about the customs guys, by the way. They only take Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. A former co-worker of mine had a subscription and while he had no problem with regular issues the bathing suit girls never showed up. I hope there are no scantily clad concubines on the cover of Civ3.

...Or Bestbuy? I know figure the odds on THAT happening!
But in my case, since I've ordered through them, I hope Bestbuy.com surprises us!

EB without a doubt - it's what they do. It will be in their stores and arriving on doorsteps on October 31st. Amazon customers will have it Nov 1st or 2nd.
Bestbuy.com --> maybe you'll be playing by the end of November.

When will preorders arrive?
Best guess is 1-3 days after the release date in the country where the game was ordered. But Amazon.co.uk usually manges to get orders here the day after they get the product in, which beats most of the competition. Then the UK is a smaller country with a better post service.

Actually it will be in the stores on the 30th.
That's why it's faster to buy from a store for those who have an EB nearby than wait the extra day for it to be shipped.

Babbages, as well.
That has certainly been the case for many games I've tracked. Pre-order has never meant that you'll get it first. I wonder where that misconception started from? I have always found it ludicrous that folks would preorder a movie or cd (unless they don't live near a store). We all know that stores like Best Buy get mountains of all movies and cds.
But Civ3 might be different because of the LE. Do you really think that you will find LEs (in addition to SEs) in the stores next Tuesday?

This is the main reason why I decided to preorder my Civ3 copies - to ensure I get my LE copies of the game, and not having to settle for the SE.

You have problems, whether you get your copy on 30th October or 1st November, I have to wait here in Austria until 16th November. This is a very, very long time ....

cyril: For me, I don't care when I get it. In fact, I'll probably wait a few days before I get to load it and start playing. You won't be seeing me in one of those threads next week saying, I WANT THE GAME NOOOOWWWWW. There was a rumour a short while ago saying that they might have sold out the 75,000 LEs just through pre-orders. Methinks it was a sales ploy.

Either way, limited or standard, its the same game.

See? Game still works the same. No settling required (except for settling new cities).

Why are you guys in such a hurry. Why not wait until the game is throughly examined by other players and has gotten its first patch?

Patches are there to refine the game as you've progressed to Emperor, Deity levels. While the patch is being made ready, I'll be figuring out all the game mechanics and nuances of resources and the new diplomacy setting, so that by the time I'm ready for a new challenges, the patch will be ready and I'll have the game basics figured out.

You have to be kidding right?
Playing on less than Diety level? Hmm... might be interesting for a lark but what would be the point?
Anyway, preorders are already on backorder now. They always queue up the shelves first cause there is no rush to ship a game to someone who has already paid, lol.

With all the new game mechanics, I'm not starting on Deity, I'm starting at Prince/King so that I can mess around with all the new features without much AI interference, so my first few Deity games aren't a pre 1 AD rout because I don't use resources and diplomacy correctly. Diplomacy was expanded in SMAC but still was not as integral to the game as it appears it will be in Civ3.
