Hi from Molly, and all the rest of Amazon.
Yes Molly has spoken out again, with this to say :

Quote:
Greetings again from Amazon.co.uk.

Thank you for your patience in awaiting a reply. Our ordering department
has looked into this question for you. It appears that the release date
has changed to mid-November, and therefore we will update the information
on our Web site shortly. As soon as have copies and are authorised to
dispatch orders, we will do so.

I do hope that this information is useful to you. Please let us know if
we can be of further assistance, and thank you for shopping with
Amazon.co.uk.

Warmest regards,

Molly Barry

LOL

I did the same, had a pre-order from a few months ago, but since it was being shipped from America, it would have taken an extra month to get here! So my preorders cancelled, and im getting it local.

I hear ya Faboda. My experience with buying games has tought me that you'll get the game a lot quicker if you just buy it off of the shelf.

I'll probably get the game about a day or two after it's been released, so I should have it in my hands a week tomorrow.

I'm in Ireland and I'm going to order mine from amazon.com, the page says they'll ship internationally, from experience that means if it comes out Wednesday 31st, I should get it Friday 2nd or Monday 5th November - I don't mind paying an extra $10 to get it nearly two weeks earlier

Pre-ordering does exactly what it says on the tin. You order it early. Until they're allowed to sell the game, they can't send it to you. If they've got copies to send out, they've also got permission to put them on the shop shelves. The only time you'll ever gain is if a direct sales company has copies in stock to sell but some problem has stopped the major retailers getting them to the shops. For instance EU was available in English version to purchase from mainland Europe a few weeks before the UK retail deal was finalised.

The advantage of pre-ordering is that your copy will come to your doorstep. When I was still living in the countryside this was a lot less hassle than ringing round the local games shops to find out which one had copies then driving over to collect. Now I work near a big London game shop it is pointless. There is more chance of the mail order supplier not getting their copies on day one than there is of the shop not having any.

I agree with Grumbold, preordering isn't the
same as buying a game before it's release.

Anyway, I preordered a copy from Amazonas,
because I get it earlier (7.-10.11.) than from a local
store here in Finland. Secondly I wanted to get
a BTE.

I've ordered my biscuit tin from Amazon.com and paid extra for delivery in 4 days. If the release date is as Firaxis says 30/10 then I will cancel the super fast order part of the order and buy the normal version in the shops.

Actually, they are. You're pre-ordering, not pre-getting.

But the burning question is will those awfully nice people at Amazon.co.uk ship them out on the 15th so Civ3 will be on your doorstep before you leave for work (or where ever) on the 16th ??

Oh the dilemma
Civ3 from a shop - hassle but certain of getting a copy sometime on Friday 16th
or
Civ3 from Amazon - no effort and probably cheaper but might not get it on Friday

I've got a bet with myself that I won't see the pre-order copy from amazon.co.uk until Tuesday. That's the price of releasing games on Fridays, cause they don't seem to dispatch orders on Saturdays. But at least it is an improvement on the 28/12 which was their final answer until this morning.

Actually they say the estimated arrival date is the 19th which if past experince is anything to go by it'll arrive about the 25th.

So I pre-order from Amazon and I get the game a whole 3 days later than the shops! WOO-HOO!

Me and my friend are gonna go in after school on Friday, get it then. I already have it reserved in Game so..........

Personally I think Monday is more likely.
Although I could put up without Civ3 on the Friday (I can't believe I said that) - by drinking myself in to a stupor
The thought of the whole weekend without it is just too horrible to contemplate
