The units still have attack, defense and move values but the concept of firepower is gone now. Units have hit points, 3 at the basic level, 4 as veterans and 5 as elites.
|
Looking at the review it doesnt have much more new cool info exept for screens and the above.

Regular is veterancy level? (Regular/Veteran/Elite/Gr.Leader
3/3 is health
1.3.1/1 (Attack.Defense.MovePoints/MovePointsRemaining)
Sound close?

My stream-of-consciousness thoughts on various screens:
"Armies at the gates" http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/preview...e/aciv3025.jpg
Nice, another army shot. Hey, anyone else notice that it is 1940 AD and the army consists of Legions!? Huh? Most of the shots contain Cavalry as the strongest unit... is this some ssssslllllooooowwww tech research or what?
"Simple menus" http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/preview...e/aciv3010.jpg
To answer someone's question, that "3/3" after "Wake Regular" is most likely Hit Points Remaining/Total Hit Points. Just guessing.
"Smart advisor" http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/preview...e/aciv3016.jpg
VERY cool - finish what you're doing and then build whatever is needed for growth. Yummy!
"The Military Advisor" http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/preview...e/aciv3005.jpg
Notice one of the captured units is a barbarian? Cool! And unit upgrades can be performed right from the advisor screen. More coolness! As long as we have a larger world map in this pic, those continents look outstanding.
"The Panzer!" http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/preview...e/aciv3022.jpg
THE PANZER!!!
Alright - I'm ready for the 31st. BRING IT ON!
Almost forgot - Thanks Serapis!

That must be to balance the taking out of firepower stats in Civ2. Also, possible attack and defense strengths were similarly scaled in SMAC between early and late-game units

I think that there is a pretty good amount of new info, however it's dealing more with game specifics that we were unsure of, rather then broader game info we already knew.

Take a look at what the science advisor is saying:
"The steam engine and other machines are changing our society dramatically. Our scientists and entrepreneurs want industrialization to increase our production"
Nice!

For those of you saying that the F-15 will never be obsolete, well heres the proof.
Its says that the F-15 replaces the basic Jet Fighter. Which meanst that stealth bomberes/fighters will replace the F-15

No problem...any new info for Civ3 junkies everywhere is a good thing
Nice catch on the barbarians. Does this mean that barbarian encampments will grow and build terrain improvements? Exciting possibility.
PS-I'm watching JPL live and the Mars Odyssey is in orbit and okay. to NASA.

Leaders can enter a city and complete any single improvement in a single turn. And that includes wonders of the world.
|
Damn! When they said rush, I thought they meant speed up a little... not finish in one turn!!
As for units, we've already seen Modern Armor's stats as 24.14.3. Bye-bye Panzer when they come along.

I believe the greater attack stats are to compensate for lack of firepower stat. To keep everything balanced, you know.

Must be. Imaging a Modern Armor against a phalanx. This huge difference will probably mean that the phalanx won't be winning any time soon.

The hp stats sound right from the recent previews. The PC.IGN preview agrees too.

What happens when your army gets defeated? Do you lose your great leader? Does he get captured by the enemy?

To defeat an army you need to kill all the units in that army, the great leader would mostly likely get killed btw.

This week's civ3.com "Screenshot of the week" shows that in the editor you can change what captured units become. The default is "worker."
So that barbarian worker was probably something else before getting captured.
