For the first time, I hope that Australia and Austria are mixed up.

Aussie release
Pulsar computers in Bourke St, Melbourne told me yesterday that they're looking to have it in on the 9th of November.

Hmm....these all seem to be largely unsubstantiated rumours...and the release dates on those sites keep changing. Just guess we'll have to wait and see

hmm.....so basically, whilst it could come on the 30th Oct, it probably won't? You have to admit, there's a fair window between the 30th and November the 15th

The latest update ...
I was told by a couple of retail outlets that it is expected in the country (New Zealand) today (October 31) and will be in the stores by Friday or Saturday at the latest.

www.gamezone.co.nz has this update on it's site today:
"We have received an e-mail this morning from the local distributors advising that Sid Meiers: Civilization III has been delayed until next week. Here's the official word: "Bad News, due to a production error the master Disc supplied to Australia is Faulty and will not run. Hence the release date has been delayed".
I don't think I have ever received a game on the expected date yet from anyone so i'm not really surprised.

Do NZ suppliers deliberately lie?
It probably won't arrive until at least the 16th, in fact I think that's always been the real release time, since Australia have been consistent with it and have never waivered from it. The problem appears to be the apparent lack of integrity of New Zealand suppliers/salesmen; their tactic seems to be to deliberately lie about a release date and then come up with some outrageous excuse when it doesn't turn up. It's a gimmick to keep people interested and on tenderhooks. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole excuse of the master copy not running being another load of BS. I can't believe anyone would be so dumb as to supply a dud master-copy. Can you believe it - I'm having a great deal of trouble doing so. It's almost unbelievable that they do this but I've heard it happen enough times to be downright suspicious. The number of shipments that have supposedly fallen overboard over the years makes for some pretty careless seamen and wharfies. They seem to be making a game of it, having retailers on saying its been shipped etc and then seeing how ingenious they can be coming up with some new excuse.
So now they're saying it won't be for another week - what excuse will they come up with next week that supposedly delays it until mid-November? Oooohhh- I can hardly wait to see!

Its all a pity. However I am not to worried about the release date being a couple of weeks away here (In Oceania) as I am in the middle of exams.
I don't think there is malicious misinformation campagin, rather plain stupidity.

Some inside information! Game due 5th November?
Ok, I've recently received some new inside information. My source has talked to a New Zealand importer who he knows personally and the importer said that the game will be in Auckland shores on Friday 2nd November. Depending on when it is shipped from there, it will probably be in NZ stores on Monday or Tuesday.
To clarify the confusion, New Zealand and Australia have completely different suppliers. The Australian release date has no relevance to the NZ one - we will be getting it first! Furthermore, my source is adamant that suppliers do make these stories up when there is a delay in order to avoid face. The story about a bad Austrlain master copy is a lie and wouldn't affect us in any case as we're not getting the game via Australia.

Just another little thing that may support Russells comment, My gamezone.co.nz account has Civ 3's status as "Processing" instead of what it said yesterday, which was "On pre-order". Gamezone is pretty fast so maybe i will have it tommorrow!?!?!

You got me all excited, so I checked my gamezone account but it still says "on pre-order." Grrrrr, my wife will be pleased when I get it. She thinks i'm very grumpy. Women just don't understand, LOL.

Well, it's all interesting information none the less.
If you guys get Civ3 before we do, then I am happy for you.
Just remember though, we've got the Bledisloe. Petty, I know, but that's all I've got right now!!
As for Games suppliers hyping the release date and saying it'll be in store before it ever will be - well, it's a marketing tactic I guess, but it's a pretty low one.

All of these warm fuzzy peaceful cross Tasman feelings must result in:
'We Love the King Day' celebrated in Australia
'We Love the King Day' celebrated in New Zealand
or maybe we postpone these days until Civ 3 actually arives here.
Interesting... my brother has just called. He is halfway through downloading *something* off the net. Seeing as I have already paid for it (preorder) is this illegal? Must leave work and go home!!!!!

yeah, it is illegal, but id do it anyway if i could find it )and if my 56k modem could actually get it before the release!
I went in to gamesman today, and the store dude confirmed 9 nov as release.
when i went there today there was the civ3 box, sitting on the shelf and i just about had a heart attack. then I looked closely and saw the "coming soon" sticker on the box.
Now thats just ****ing cruel. I told them so too
heh

Civ3 isn't really much
No MP, No scenario support,no events, too easy to miss out on resources and then miss out on the Modern age.
Got a "demo' and today its gone straight in the bin, won't be buying civ3 when it officially is released here.
Civ2 is still better.

OK I have been playing it for about an hour now and I think it is well worth it! I'm not going to cancel my preorder. For anyone that has cable or can wait long enough I d/l it using Kazaa 121Mb.
I don't feel bad at all about d/l the game because I have preoredered and will buy when it arrives in Australia. Must go now and negotiate with the Zulus they have a large army.

Myth release.
Music stops after loading a game.
No wonder animations.
Probably other problems but comparisons are difficult...
