Rah... bring dinner
While I thought I was going to get lucky and be able to join the early saturday nite game for a change... It doesn't look as promising anymore. If anybody is interested in a late nite Saturday (somewhere between 10 - 11 CST) let me know.
We do get an extra hour of sleep this weekend... so why not use it instead to play civ

Ming, thanks for closing 31 so no one posts there by accident.
We wouldn't want anyone to accuse us of having multiple threads for the same game.

you left quite a science powerhouse, the iron clads were cruising. Once I got cannons, bird's civ was doomed. I had steamrolled half his cities, and his cap and rest of his cities wouldn't have survived 10 more turns. It wouldn't have mattered if he had been directing the defense, it was a great steamroll of over 30 cannons with vet rifles for defense. I got gunpowder just in time or you would have done it to me. I did catch up on the mid wonders, adam smiths, shakes, magellens and finishing newts.
It was funny on the first turn that we continued, all the cannons and muskets on that mountain attacked the city, what was it 4 cannons 4 muskets. no damage
Much easier once the general was gone.

I did well without HG..... going the SSC route was good...again i took too long to get into republic...... was a shame.....had i played it right....i think i could have taken huge chunks out of all the empires on the board...
to bad the power went out...... you would have beat me to SOL but not to cops or issacs..... and your right....when the general was assasinated, confidence was thrashed and i am sure the usurper ai was just poor
It was great to start so early and it was nice to have vet gunpowder units on the board at such an early hour .......
Great game guyz...good to have you both in the same game....lets try that again
oh and nice verbal blathering about vet legions.... had to put a few more defensive units on the board....i thought bird was still pissed at me for nuking his capital...... but as i found out by listening to you lads.....you two were going at it

That game was a good example of how to have fun even when the odds are against you. I had a horrible starting position, with no trade specials at all (except two silk, one of which rah built on before I could and the other one which I didn't find until mid-game or so), but pretty good production and food. Only found one hut (50 gold) and barbs never appeared in my area. Couldn't revolt to monarchy until 1850 BC, which is awful. And then it turns out that I was pinned in b/c the only way to expand was south, through a chokepoint which, despite being fairly wide, rah had build cities on both sides and directly south of. So I decided to be a warmonger, which failed completely. Maybe I should have gone for mapmaking early, but didn't want to get sidetracked from feudalism, and then when I got feudalism, I wanted iron working to try to take advantage of the small window of opportunity it would give me. But then the vet legions were worthless, which I still can't understand.
When I established an embassy with rah, he had something like 24 techs to my 16, and it wasn't going to get any better, with him in republic and me likely never to get there even if it could help. I was only getting discoveries every 7 turns at the end, despite 12 cities. My days were indeed numbered. rah, it is too bad war got bounced, b/c you and he would have had an interesting contest to see which one took the most cities. He was at it before you, but I think he would have had a harder time b/c he had to transport all his troops by boat, which was going to be risky until he got ironclads.
Had fun, though, despite it all. (Still can't understand those legions. Bastards.)

The legions aren't that much of mystery. I did have a embassy so I knew you had Iron Works. I rushed a barracks and had quite a few vet phalanx. 3x1.5x1.5 so it 6 against 6. My defenders always just survived with a sliver of red and with the barracks they were ready to go the next turn. Once I got math, no chance.
But it did cost me considerable resources which really helped War out. You were doing a great job of starving my capital and splitting my empire in half. A lot of caravans had to settle for bad payoffs or kept me from some wonders. (if you had played a few more turns you would have seen my response to that) Between that and War4 nibbling on the other end, a lot of resources wasted. A lot of gold rushbuilding units to replace those lost and for preparing the counter attack. The whole time Ming was all by his lonesome expanding like crazy. Being in the middle was interesting.
But it was a fun game and you are to be commended for fighting it out. But you probably should have gone map making. There was a large mass SE of me that I didn't get to right away that you probably could have beat me to. Each pair of legions could have been a ship and a settler. But it's easy to second quess using hindsight.
And by the time we finished, war4/ai had lots of ironclads patrolling the oceans. Leaving the AI with a SSC is pretty potent.
It was interesting taking out your cities played by the AI since they were all on good defensive terrain. The AI never builds like that. They all had walls by the time I got there to replace the GW expiring.
It's too bad we had problems, an early start like that was rare and the game gets fun when cannons, iron clads and muskets/rifles appear.

Well I am not at all happy with CIV III SP. I would prefer a good MP Civ 2. This thread seems to be a place to find good players.
I would love to get a game of some 4-5 players going.
Anywhere else I can go to find other folks to start a Civ II MP if this is not the place?
The group I used to game with is down 2 just 2.
Let me know, thanks
my email is tdfxman@yahoo.com or yahoo IM, same handle

We are always looking for new players
We usually play "Rah" rules...
2x pro 1x movement
No City bribes, unit bribing Ok
No "instant teleportion" for units or caravans
No "gifting" units to give double movement in same turn
No Sharing Wonders
Raging Hordes
And if you are still interested after reading the above... you might want to download ICQ... because we use it extensively to play.
Games are usually played on Friday and Saturday nights..
Tuesday nights... and anytime you can find a person to play
