I disagree. Some kid in BFI (same as BFE, but with Iowa instead of Egypt - i.e. corn instead of war chariots) bought Civ3 right before the manager caught what the rogue clerk had done. Kid took game home, installed, and said "What the hell? I thought this was real-time" and the game becomes shelfware.

Gintautas - hello from neigbhoring county, laba diena!
Here piracy costs even less than that. I know of a place where it's for 1.25 $/disk. You come, order anything, the next day you return, take the disk(s), and pay. All that easy. But I don't support piracy, and will buy Civ 3.

I used to do this kind of thing. A loooong time ago, but as I got older (and richer) I put aside my pirating ways and started paying for the games. It's better for the industry and better for my conscience.
I think if the game was out or sold on accident. someone would have said something about it. The reason distributers ask to have it put out on a specific day, is to insure a unified release. They don't want people in Alaska *****ing because the people in Ohio are playing and they aren't. This way, everybody gets the game at the same time.

Ahhh, the dog days of October... waiting for Civ III. What's cool about these next four days is that my girlfriend's parents are out of town. So I'm glad the days are longer Although they're going to be pissed when they see the stains on the ceiling

The strongest argument that it's near-impossible to get right now is that I haven't seen it posted in any newsgroup or warez channel. Hacker groups are incredibly good at getting early releases--I remember getting Heroes III 3 days before it was officially released --and pride themselves on being the first with a 0-day rip, so if they don't even have it odds are you don't either.
Before you heap on your derision and scorn I did pay for Heroes III later, since I liked the game alot. I'd gladly do the same with Civ 3--if only I could find it.

I'll try to get an illegal copy as soon as I can, coz I just can't wait till Nov. 16th. Yet then, I'll definitely buy the original game. I'm only kind of pay after receiving...

Come on, Temp. This sounds like another "friend of a friend of a friend" story. If you knew him personally, you could buy the "shelfware" off him for cheap. Then you'd be the one here yelling, "I Got It!!!!"

my EB order status went from "waiting for product" to "processing" ...so they DO have it already and it is POSSIBLE that someone hijacked a copy of it.
