2120 to Tau
Goody #1 has appeared-- I have the start locations of all factions-- None of us seems particularly crowded but we can start THINKING about longer term strategy. I know we have insufficient info at present BUT
Do we just try to outbuild them??
Does one of us "go military" and get aggressive (likely me)?
How about planning a probe rape of the university-- One faction could send a bunch of probes at them and subvert some bases with cash provided by the others?
These are all longer tem questions but ones we must think about as our focus must move from tactics to the longer term strategy. Personally, I'm thinking about longer range attacks against the uni or consciousness but we will have to see.. None of this may be feasible if the AI starts hunting us
I am thinking that after the current beeline to synth FF, I should go for mobility and flexibility-- getting some probeships out to infiltrate our enemies and readying us for airpower-- I would attempt this while you two continue on the restriction lifting techs
Any thoughts or plans--

I think it is too early to say what our long-term strategy should be. We need to expand, and preferably get some probe foils out in the not too distant future. (Flex after EnvEco?)

2120 to Flubber.
Tau, thanks for SocPsych. I was able to choose Secrets and I will have it in 3 turns. Hopefully, I will be the first one to it. I will be hoping for EthCalc or G.Splicing for the free tech. Are there any other preferences in case those aren't offered?

Since ethical calc is a prereq for GS it is EC that we are hoping for.
I think that getting to GS is the primary focus while I will contine to contribute toward weapons. As for an altenate tech, I think you just have to go for the one that you think is most useful overall-- Doc Mobility perhaps-- or neural grafting(more a long term tech)-- I was thinking centauri empathy until I remembered the Empath Guild is already gone -- I would avoid poly software or prog psych
Other than that -- just use your judgment-- Once you get past the bonus tech (assuming you get it) you can go for GS or in the hope that when one of you gets there the other will have an available switch to Eco Engineering-- and when you get there the Drones will be very happy indeed

2122 sent to Flubber.
Secrets next turn. Keeping my fingers crossed for EthCalc. I will send InfoNets (and hopefully EthCalc) along to you next turn. Flubber, do you want both at once or do you want me to stagger them (InfoNets first, of course) to increase your chances at getting to pick the tech you want?

There is no hurry on Info nets at all. I want info nets when it can be bundled with gene Splicing so that synth could be an option when I switch. If I do not get the option for synth fossil fuels, I will simply go for the tech that best helps me of the others you have, take a gift ( if I am close to research completion, you could have a standing gift available to be accepted when necessary) and then try again.
With proper maneuvering, we should be able to get missiles as a weapon in about 10 years (rough estimate). I will take ethical calc though since a switch to demo could boost my frowth and efficiency

2123 sent to Flubber.
Good news! I was the first to Secrets and did get to choose EthCalc as my free tech. I was also able to choose Gene Splicing as my next tech.
EthCalc on the way to Tau.
Flubber, I am with you on your tech plan. The only fly in the ointment is that you are currently scheduled to get InfoNets in 14 turns and I am scheduled for G.Splicing in 15. I will have a few new bases going up before then, so I may be able to overtake you, but I suspect that you will have your own new bases going up, too. So, I may not be able to pull off the InfoNets/G.Splicing bundle. Perhaps Tau will be able to bundle it for you. We'll just keep an eye on our options for the next few turns.

Thats good news on getting those choices.
I would not worry about you and me on the timing. IIRC Tau had eth calc halfway researched so he should be able to send me that "bundle" long before I get near completing current research. He should get GS as a choice and if he does not, he can always pick a tech to be gifted (HEC perhaps) and try again.
Also-- I WILL take ethical calc when you have the chance. I figure the growth alone is worthwhile (from demo)

As I suspected, tau should get his next discovery in about 5 years-- It should be easy enough to make sure that it is GS--
Yay-- found the 150 ec of the reactor-- Don't know that i really want the units while in FM

Yes, GS in 5. I did not read the thread first and so have not passed on EthiCalc yet, but perhaps Q will do so.

I know i will feel a lot safer once we have a weapon

Tau, thanks for GS. I was able to choose Eco.Engineering. I will have it in 7 turns (or maybe less depending on how soon I can get my new bases online). I will send it to you as soon as I get it.

Thanks for GS and Info nets
I am now researching synth FF and can see that both of you are on eco engineering so yippeee-- good weapons available in 3 IIRC and good minerals in about 5.
Oh and I have a chopper flying (independent --yes). I plan to fly it to the limits to get some idea of surrounding terrain.

Managed to buy Flex from Aki for 100 credits - anyone want it? Flubber, you should probably take it before you discover SFF, so you can go straight for Air. We could have it in the 2140s!

Gentlemen, I had to reload the turn twice. I do apologize. The first time, the game loaded, but, after closing the commlinks, the map screen was completely blank. I had to Alt-Ctrl-Del out. I should have learned my lesson, but I tried to load the turn again. The second time the map did appear, but I could not activate any units. I had to Alt-Ctrl-Del out again. I finally wised up and rebooted my system. After that, the turn played fine. Many apologies.

Tau, very nice obtaining D:Flex from Aki. I will want to put some probe ships on the water, but I will wait until we have EnvEcon safely in hand. Here's hoping Flubber will be able to choose Air Power after Synth Fossil Fuels. How sweet will that be?

Doc flex please-- yes I will take it asap for the chance at air-- wow save the need for mobility
and gang-- this rush to weapons was probably not a bad idea-- I found a consciousness base and CP about 6 square NE of the PK-- I need to go to UN Planetary trust to regenerate but I will try to explore as much as possible on ensuing turns with that chopper.
I plan to start sending out probeships ASAP-- my main goal will be infiltration info to see if tech probing is even worthwhile. I would love Yangs world map though
