Solver, I hope Civ3 will be good for you, otherwise you'll be one angry dude.
It's a big step to upgrade your monitor for a game, I can understand a graphics card or something, but a monitor can be a lot of money.

ROFL!!
Umm...
17" monitor = <$150
GeForce2 = >$150
GeForce3 = >$350
You sure a monitor costs more than a video card?
Glad to see Solver is seeing more of his desktop now.

October 26th, 1995 is when my first home computer was bought, and having the same monitor that I spoke about in my 800x600 threads. Today it's 6 year anniversary for my computer and, especially, monitor!

Thanks Blue for the info.
If Blue makes it back to this thread I'd like to hear about the editor. But one simply question, are there airbases (like Civ2)?

::gasp!::
I sure hope the option is there, because otherwise I won't bother with the world map, and playing on the Earth is one of my faviorate things to do. I mean, if the Russians are in Australia, the Japanese in South America and the French in China, you might as well just play a random map. No pre-set starting points would, IMHO, just throw the entire purpose of having an Earth map out the window.
Surely Firaxis didn't forget this.....

Geeze, didn't know they had folks living in Antarctica.
Hmm, have you tried online? There are places where you can buy a monitor online for roughly around the price I quoted. Of course the prices are in US dollars so that may be a problem for some.

Posting the manual is perhaps not legal; yet you might email a copy to Markos or Yin, who could then answer our questions in the forum.
And you might send us a few screenshots from your game!

Why Markos or Yin ?
Markos isn't very keen on answering questions
And yin will for sure give a very pessimistic answer.
you'd better mail the manual to the former president of the official apolyton realistic civers club ! Hey, that's me

I'd actually like a pessimistic answer, as long as it's not exaggerated
so, yin is good for something then.

Dont say that too loud, Yin has his spies everywhere, someone will hear
I think BlueHooHoo is either really interested in Civ 3, cant stop playing to answer our posts, or the Firaxian Information Police have found his secret hideout and taken him away for questioning...
If not, id still like to hear about ICBMs

I dont think he has it. hes lying.
Has he given us one fact or screenshot that we havn't heard of yet? No. its easy to come up with a credible story, but until I see a screenshot, im not convinced.

I suppose I could be ;-) I have no way to prove anything but why would I bother making this stuff up? Just trying to pass on some information to anyone who might be intrested. And anyway a lot of people will have the game themselves in a few days (grin)
Back to the game. I got trashed by the Froggies (sorry, the very noble empire to the north of my pathetic little province!)
Thank goodness for peace treaties (and saved games!).

Well, it's my guess everyone will believe now. This screenshot hasn't been posted ever, and is the one asked for. Thanks Blue, from the entire Apolyton staff!

Thanks! If you can, please post a screenshot of huge world map, the minimap. I'm curios how huge it really is, I hope you can really make 10 cities in Britain.
And now, post the PDF manual . I bet we all can ask this. Altogether: Post the Manual!!!

Man, people are so quick to call others liars - especially when someone does something useful like offer up hitherto unknown information. First it was Mister Pleasant (the woman who got the email from Firaxis saying no MP), and now BlueHooHoo. Its one thing to be skeptical, another to be an a$$. If I ever got ahold of sensitive information, I don't think I would share it around here with the way some people act.
Thanks for the infor Blue ... I for one won't bite the hand that feeds.

Hi People,
Much as I would like to give you the manual it’s not really up to me. There are obvious "issues" involved, which I'm sure you can appreciate, that prevent an employee of any company handing out copyrighted material. Besides I've only got a 56k modem here, you'd all be playing Civ4 by the time it finished uploading!
I'm no expert on the game just a fan, like yourselves, trying to give a bit back to these quality forums which have helped/entertained us for years now.

I'll be playing from a 500MHz AMD-K6PC, having Windows Xp and 256 MB RAM. Should be good, I think.
|
We’ve been running the game on several PC's for the last couple of days
My home 'puter is an over-clocked 633 celeron (950MHz), GeForce2, 384MB Ram, IBM Deskstar 15GB HDD. and Win XP
it runs fine, though scrolling across the map is somewhat sluggish.
At the office we have higher spec PC's: a 1.2GHz Athlon and a PIII 1.7Ghz. The Pentium3 is also a little slow scrolling (it has XP) the Athlon runs the game very fast (windows 98). I think that the difference may be due to running XP. I have to stress that this isn't in any way conclusive, very subjective. I'm fairly certain with a little tweaking of the PC's the performance will be greatly enhanced..... who cares anyway? the game is pretty damn cool
I'll try and get a screen grab of the Huge Earth mini map for you - not sure how yet, as there are no cheat codes, that I know of, to reveal the whole map; playing it long enough to reveal it all might take a little time, LOL
Cheers BHH

Start a game in England and reveil as much of England as you can. That will give us an indication as to the size of the rest of the world.

Yes, I understand about the manual. I still think the game will run fine on that PC...
As for world map, The Rook has a nice idea. Play on Huge Earth as English, reveal Britain and colonize, then make a screenshot and tell how many cities have you got on the Biritish Island. Will be nice.
Thanks again for support!

BlueHooHoo, there's one thing I am really interested in. Sounds like a small detail, but I'm convinced it will have a large effect on gameplay:
When you discover a tech which allows you to "see" a new resource, how does this actually play out? Let's say you've explored the other side of the world, but you have no units there at this moment. Can you instantly see the resources there, just like you can see the resources in your homeland? Or do you have to re-explore those areas, to find the far off resources?

Hmmm, That is a very GOOD question Old Dog.
I too, would like to know the answer to that.
