OK, I am sure you are too busy playing the game to do a lot of posting, so I will try to limit my wishes to the reasonable.
Could you post a shot of
-the Espionage Screen ?
-the Civilopedia entry for the Intelligence Agency Wonder ?
Please?

Yes it IS a good question Old Dog. More importantly, will the AI have to go looking for these resources too, or will it automatically "know" where everything is. I guess Blue couldn't answer that second part though.

As far as I can figure it out: when you discover the necessary scientific advance your civilization suddenly "realizes" what that strange mineral outcrop really is and it just appears instantly on the map. You only know its there if it’s within line of site of one of your units/cities. The resource can "appear" on a square but if your units can't see it they can't exploit it.....hope that made some sense (?)
TRIBUNE - sorry, I'm playing too slowly, I haven't got the tech for the epionage screen, my Civ still think catapults are the hottest toy in town!!

Bluehoohoo: Thanks a million for all of you input!
That espionage screen makes me wonder what "plant spy" is. Like, what does that do?

Maybe a spy must be successfully planted in other civ before you can undertake any mission like steal maps or sabotage production. Just a thought

Destroying enemy improvements is implemented through airstrikes.

If anything BlueHooHoo, these screenshots of the Civlopedia is very revealing of the game, so if you want to take any time to post screenshots, do so with screens of those! They're very informative!

Very interesting espionage screen! It looks to me like the game is making a distinction between missions which require spies and missions which don't. So in order to execute "Initiate Propoganda" and "Sabotage Production", you have to first successfully "Plant Spy". On the other hand, "Steal World Map" and "Steal Plans" do not appear to require "Plant Spy" first. And of course, "Expose Enemy Spy" tells you if anyone has planted a spy on you.
I believe "Steal Tech" and "Investigate City" are available prior to building the Intelligence Agency, so obviously those can't require "Plant Spy" first.

Hmmm the special resources have me worried now... looks like you'll have to re-explore the lands to see where they are. Or did I misunderstand that?

I think what he's saying (correct me if I'm wrong, BlueHooHoo) is that the resources do appear at the time you discover the enabling tech, but if they're not within an area you can currently see, then you don't know they are there. So that would cover areas you haven't explored, as well as areas that you have explored but can't currently see (fog of war). So yes, you would have to re-explore to find where the resources appeared.
To me, that's perfectly realistic. I like that.

Regarding your first question, yes, I imagine that before a precision bombing mission, you choose the exact target. For regular bombing or bombardment, I imagine you cannot choose the target.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the second question!

With regard to the strategic resources question I think albiedamned explains it better than I did. That is how the game works, seems fairly realistic, especially when that much needed item is in someone else’s territory. Start revving up them tank engines boys! (diplomacy and trading are for wimps!!!)
MANKIND - every time you contact another Civ you get a nice piece of orchestral music, with a gentle bell ringing sound. I think this is specific to each individual nation and changes tempo depending on their mood: polite, annoyed, enraged etc.
JASON BEAUDOIN - haven't got the tech for Aircraft, its going to take a few more hours of play. Maybe I should use some of my old wooden catapults to launch some Archers into the air, perhaps that'll give us some idea what the flying animation is like?

Man, people are so quick to call others liars - especially when someone does something useful like offer up hitherto unknown information. First it was Mister Pleasant (the woman who got the email from Firaxis saying no MP), and now BlueHooHoo. Its one thing to be skeptical, another to be an a$$. If I ever got ahold of sensitive information, I don't think I would share it around here with the way some people act.
Thanks for the infor Blue ... I for one won't bite the hand that feeds.
|
Before the screenshot, BLue hadnt give us anything new.
I didnt say anything about Mr. Pleasent (incase you were wondergin)
Not giving out sensitive information is your right. No one said you had to
I wasn't being an a$$. Only you and some other dude thought I was. You're just overreacting.

If you get a chance, BlueHooHoo, I would love to see the Civilopedia entry on government types. I don't know if it's one entry describing all the types, or separate entries for each type. If you can post whatever you can, that would be great.

Actually it's different for each continental group ( American, European, Middle Eastern Asian......... the different colour groups in the 'civ abilities' table at civ3.com.
Now I've put your mind at rest maybe you could answer me a question -
Can you chose the colour of your civ?
I've seen a lot of screen shots with different coloured civs. I was just wondering if you choose or it is set for each civ.

Ok, I understand now. As far as I know, you can no longer use espionage to destroy city improvements. I have not seen that ability anywhere. I believe only bombardment can destroy city improvements.

I guess it might be asking to much to post each entry. Oh well.
Here's another question. I remember reading somewhere that they put snowcaps on the mountains, but that it was a last minute change. I have not seen any screen shots anywhere of snowcapped mountains. Personally I think the mountains are rather unattractive, but I was hoping the snowcaps would make them look better. Does your version of the game have snowcapped mountains, and if so, could post a little snippet of one? Thanks!
