Wow - the number of units you can support for free is determined by the size of your cities. I assume that town, city, metropolis means the size of the city. Town is below the Aqueduct limit, city is below the Hospital limit, and metropolis is above Hospital limit (unlimited).
I've seen military advisor screen shots where the number of allowed units is zero. I'm assuming this was due to government type. So I'm guessing that under Democracy, towns, cities, and metropolises all support zero units for free, and thus all units must be paid for.
Also, now we know that under monarchy you can rush buy improvements but not speed them through forced labor. So Uber won't be running any of his "Death Camps" under monarchy.

MANKIND - every time you contact another Civ you get a nice piece of orchestral music,
with a gentle bell ringing sound. I think this is specific to each individual nation and
changes tempo depending on their mood: polite, annoyed, enraged etc.

LAWRENCE - sorry about the quality of the screen grabs. I'm just using PRINT SCREEN then editing them in PAINT, they need cropping and re-sizing because attached files on this forum have size restrictions. And I'm a pretty useless at the fiddly stuff
SNOOPY - I don't have an editor It may be that the version I have been given to use has some features missing, it's a full review copy, but I'm not certain if it’s identical to the final retail version. No sign of an editor in the documentation either. I'll try and find out what has happened to it (?)

Can you chose the colour of your civ? I've seen a lot of screen shots with different coloured civs. I was just wondering if you choose or it is set for each civ.
|
It doesn't look like you can choose; there isn't any option menu for doing that at least. I think each civilization automatically has its own colour pre-set. Russian, American, Roman, English , Aztech etc..
Don't know why the English should be Orange? Imperial purple is more suitable

Thanks!
It is becoming very clear to me that this Civ3 will stronly disfavor isolationism. In both Civ 1 and 2 I kind of liked to get an island all to myself and develop a whole lot before I went anywhere. Map making and ship building were my last priorities.
I can tell that Civ3 is the other way around. You absolutely must explore early and often!

I just learned from another post that disease is in the game. Can you confirm this BlueHooHoo? Is that in the civlopedia? It might be in the section that talks about rivers!
I thought disasters were out in this game?

Probably to do with disease limiting cities to size 12 until Hospitals. Oh, and there will still be a market here on Apolyton for spoiler screenshots after 30th October, so keep them coming please!

To quote from the manual:
Disease kills citizens and units that spend too much time in unhealthy areas like Jungle and Floodplains. Citizens that work in these terrains are susceptible to disease, as are military units that fortify in them.
Your workers can clear jungles and eliminate the risk. Floodplains continue to be risk until you discover sanitation.
So far none of my little people have turned green and dropped dead; no doubt it’s only a matter of time before they start dropping like flys!

Regarding the Civilopedia entry about Monarchy, it seems that Civ2´s commerce bonus of Republics and Democracies (additional 'arrows' in worked tiles) is gone. I guess Civ3´s goverments will feature bigger differences in the level of corruption and waste instead.

I was searching for Civ3 manual in pdf format on the net and came across search result that linked to civfanatics.com site where they have Civ2 manual posted...
Is that considered illegal? I dont think so...
Civ 3 manual is a more detailed FAQ and we should have it because such civ fanatics like our self (using this forum as a chat ) have far more questions then casual player.
Also we won't tell anyone not belonging to civ fanatics community so there is no harm at all.
I ....can't.... wait ....3 ....more... days.... PLEASE .... PLEase .... please.....

It's little touches like this that I love. This is so damn cool.
BlueHooHoo, can you give us impressions of the quality of the AI? Are your governors and opponents competent? Have they made any stupid errors, or performed any cunning maneuvers?
And, something I am personally curious about, can you name a colony?
BTW, thanks so much for what you've given us so far.
