Scenarios and Civ 3
I've just seen a post on the Civ 3 forum claiming that no scenarios come with Civ 3!
The link: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=30970
edit: the editor looks very good though

Well, it looks like it'll be up to us then! Are we ready for the task? (the answer is yes for those who don't know)

particularly the graphics part of the editor? The other stuff I'm not worried about, too much. But what choices do we have for graphics? Can we do 2d? If we have the programs to do so, can we do 3d?
I guess I'll find out soon enough. Two more days for me. Unfortunatly I won't be doing anything real serious 'till the weekend. I can see real interesting scenario possiblities. (too bad I forgot all of them)

Anyone see anything about the supposed utility to convert FW/MGE scenarios to civ3? I remember that it was to be included or somesuch at one time.
Not even a single scenario included is a major let-down for me. Its nice to be able to dive right in and find out whats possible before going through a (hopefully ) comprehensively exhausting editor manual.
I really hope this editor turns out to be all that was hoped for. If this is a flop as well I might seriously consider ignoring civ3...

HOLY EDITOR SCREEN, BATMAN!
Even I might be able to make a scenario with that. Any requests?

OH MY GOD!!!
I think that I will probably go cross eyed, wet my self and have a never breakdown from pure unadultered enjoyment. I will need to to soak in all the choices.

One thing I dont like right away....
Note we are lookign at an F-15...an air unit.
Note also that only the air 'unit abilities' selections are available... The land and sea abilities are greyed out. I expressly remember reading about this in the Dan Madgha or whatever his name is thread to scenario makers. It seems again that will will have a limited choice of unit abilities to give to units.
Want a glider to be airborne and carry some commandoes?
Seems we'll be making it a paradropping ship again...

Then again...
Looking more, it is a possibility that if you can click down more than one of those 'class' (air, land, sea) buttons you could possibly combine effects... but with what other effects...sheesh.
Just leave all the abilities in one list!!!

I can wait to get me hands on her tomorrow!!!! er...um... today!

And I thought I was sceptical
Re: the editor,
I agree it does look promising (can create combat engineers that don't run around building cities everywhere) but then I thought pretty much the same about the FW editor until it started bugging me (pun intended ).
Did anybody notice that the load/unload are two separate actions? Henceforth can one load marines onto transports and have them enjoy shipboard life so much that they never want to leave?
[Edit: UPGRADE UNIT!!!!! Please somebody tell me what that means??? ]

I only hope they are easily etitable...

Thanks FMK! That looks pretty bloody good
I must say that I'm worried that there's no edit graphic button...
(you do appear to be able to cycle through the graphics though ).
Stefan, I'm with you on the animations
Anyway I'm waiting for a SLeaguer to buy Civ 3 and give us the complete lowdown on the editing tools *hint* *hint* (I've got to wait to the 18th till it comes out in Australia )

This will be me. I am about to leave right now to drive to tax free New Hampshire and pick up my LE Civ3. I certainly will be checking out all the scenario editing stuff as soon as I can. I got three classes today, but we'll see how much school I actually attend today.

Well, if you have the techs and resources, you can upgrade (with gold) to a better unit. In this case the F-15 has no upgrades.
Now what would be fun would be to give the F-15 to a barbarian chieftain.
As far as graphics, here's an optimistic guess. One could edit a graphics file as one did afore in civ2. Well, FMK will find out for us, and I'll do so myself tommorow. Well, after homework, gotta conjugate those verbs...

FMK in regard to your paradroping sea units again i do believe reading somewhere that helicopters can load units and then "paradrop" so you want paradropping air units just make a helicoptor

I *think* I read somewhere that the anims are 3D studio max files (but it's unconfirmed as I forgot which thread) -but it does seem like the pinkish "flat" units are in as an option, quite likely in an editable graphics file, like Dan Magaha previously has said they would. I suppose Civ3 will use this file, when the player turns in-game animations off.

Darnit. That means I'll have to wait:-
*3 days for some dumbkoff in charge of the warehouse to remember that there is a W.A.
*half a day to get around the usual Labour Union issues associated with shipping anything anywhere by any method
*two days to send it across country by slow train
*half a day for the guy at the local EB to remember that I want civ3
*another half a day for someone to ring me about it - just because they're completely sick of me by now
*10 minutes to get from where I work to the local EB (er boss, I'm just taking a trip to see a, er, client about, er. the watchamacallitthingumybob )
*2 minutes to actually purchase (woohooo!!! /Imran mode off )
*about 3 hours to get to hospital as most of the ER's are closed at the moment - [I was run over by a truck as I came out of the store, eyes totally fixated on my copy of civ3 and unable to interpret my surroundings]
*10 days in traction in a full-body cast, only able to gaze longingly at my still wrapped (I was saving that until I got home) copy of civ3, going slowly mad as my prize is so near yet so far...
(sigh)
And thats my November. How about everybody else?
So now its December I'm assuming there will at least be some scenarios out (and also assuming that nobody has swiped my PC during my lengthy hospitalization period). So where are they!

In following all of such related threads all day, I am left to wonder what and how Firaxis defines "scenario". It's one thing to create new maps and units and wonders and etc., but what happens when you save it and play it? Without events, what happens or how would you know if anything happens if you can't display a message resulting from an action?
