How do Coastal Fortresses work?
I read in the Strategy Guide post that Coastal Fortresses give a +50% defense bonus against naval attacks (much like Civ2). Please tell me that this is not the case, or at least, only part of the story!!
Back in an earlier review. We were told by the Firaxians that Coastal Fortresses would actually BOMBARD naval units that came within their ZoC. COnsidering that the vast majority of Naval units can bombard cities, a coastal fortress that cannot bombard back will be all but useless!! Of course if the +50% is only against naval units dumb enough to make a DIRECT attack on a city (in addition to the bombardment feature), then I'll be cool with that.
SO could someone please tell me what the deal is with Coastal Fortresses?

Yours,
The_Aussie_Lurker.
