Anyone still holding out?
I was planning on being cool headed about Civ3. You know waiting for reviews and readers comments before plunking down cash. Hell I wasn't even going to buy the Limited Edition but somethings come over me, and I'll be off to Best Buy or EB tomorow morning after my 8:30 class, I'd cut but they don't open till 10:00.

Although I haven't been vocal pessimist; I've been pessimistic about the overall quality of the game, mainly in the scenario department (not that I have time to make them.) Argh! Time's going to be a big issue. Crap. I've got an interview at 3pm for a internship tommorrow, then at 6pm my friends having a birthday party (I'll arive late; so I can get a few turns in). Wednesday's just as bad classes from 10:00 till 3:00 and it's holloween so my friends will start calling me right after class (the pub is open at 10am), so unless I unplug my phone and turn off the cell, I'm going out (I want to anyway). Thursday ah bliss! except the 8:30 class I'm free all day woohoo. Civ3 aw yeah! The Weekend already shot by work. Enough rambling.

So my question is are any of the pessimist on this board not buying the game? It appears both Yin and Locutus have been converted. Any hold outs?

Hold on! I will only buy this game in the near future under ONE condition: If the LE is released in Korea for $35. At that price, it's a bargain if for only nostalgic reasons alone.

Judging from what I've heard about the lack of scenarios and some AI issues, however, is making me wonder about that $35 itself, actually, as being over-priced.

Yes Sophix,

Im not buying the game for awhile

Plus I think PBEM is now not possible. The saved game file Sizes are in excess of 3 MB. I just dont have 45 minutes to upload them...

It appears to be uncompressed. Someone on these forums mentioned that they zip down to the range of hundreds of kilobytes.

I stand corrected.

LOL! Nice strategy. Anyway, you got to admit $35 for the LE is pretty darn tempting ... this is just God's way of laughing at me, I think.

That sounds like some sloppy, non-optimized code.
Mine should arrive tomorrow. Sorry, but $50 + s&h just didn't seem like that much. Were I still a poor student, I'd probably wait though.

Holding Out
I'm not buying it until I see Civ 3 Multiplayer Gold or a free multiplayer patch. I wouldn't buy the single player version unless it got pretty cheap.

I'll just stick with Civ 2 and CTP 2, which I play MP with my g/f

Challenge. I want to see what good players have to say about it. I can beat the SMAC and CivII AI at the highest levels with hands tied behind my back. I'm not neccesarily asking for better AI, but at the very least smarter, scaled cheating.

If I see some people whom I respect in this field praising it, perhaps I'll grab Civ3 while the 10$ rebate is still active at EBWorld. Otherwise, I'll wait awhile for the price to drop to 20 or 30 bucks.

I am waiting, but I assume that I will buy it (or have it given to me) at some point.

Although it is indeed still open whether CIv III will be as good as Civ II, I've pre-ordered Civ III. The reason is that I have played CIv I and Civ II for 5000+ hours, but all I had back then were illegal copies. So now with my much improved income I feel more than obliged to buy this game simply to bring back money into the system that already gave me so much fun time.

I'll get Civ III when it comes out in the UK practically no matter wht anyone says simply because I get a 10 day guaranteed return policy. That means the best possible reviewer can make a personal assessment of whether the good outweighs the bad.

Hmm......chalk me up for one who sticks to their guns. I don't sell out for anything.

Theres an Eb 5 miles from where I live and could pick it up at any time.......but I've got two civ2 games going right now, and I dont have plans to quit either.

Even if it was a complete game and inculded everything it should, I probably would wait a few months anyway. I've never been one to jump on the bandwagon.

Looks like our attempts to reverend Yin
have been waste of time. I suppose we'll
have to put more effort on that.

I'm holding out until maybe I can get a job and get enough money to buy it (without my wife getting upset at me for buying another game instead of paying bills).
