Here's what I want to know: WTF happened to the aluminum a few tiles away from New Nagoya? It's in the first shot but not the third!

It's a tac nuke, not a city buster.
People think nukes are these magical, mystical disintigration devices. They're just really big bombs. Go read the High Energy Weapons FAQ, especially the effects of nukes page.

Yeah, seems kind of pathetic to me. Wish that there were poluution, or destroyed improvements, or more death or something... Just doesn't seem that drmatic, as if they were turning Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) into conventional weapons. They are NOT the same...

There was an 11 turn difference between the first screen and the last, so I'm sure they might've grown back a little.

Did that one tac nuke cause the pollution and destroy the tile improvements near Neo-Tokyo and the New Kyoto. You will also notice that Neo-Tokyo also lost some pop. if all that was done by just one nuke, that is some wide spread damage!

Theres a fog of war on the first one, so you can't tell the extent of the damage to the tiles/pollution. This is where the stealth fighters recon mission comes into play.

Couldn't the player who was taking the screen shots have used them on someone other than Japan? I don't know how to say it best . . . but saying it's just too ironic would be the best I could think of.

Thats exactly what I was thinking when I saw it. Any Japanese person in the US could sue the company for posting those shots.

Think about it... if Tac nukes are a constant 6... then size 6 cities and under are just dead. Who knows (the guys with the game of course) what ICBMs do.

Not that I'm totally outraged, just the irony and I guess poor choice of the whole thing.
Why not nuke the Babylonians for the example? They're nuclear warfare neutral
But at least the city itself wasn't actually Hiroshima or Nagasaki, now THAT would be in bad taste.

I probably just haven't been watching the screenshots as closely as most others have, but I think this is the first time I've seen the entirity of a randomly generated map (in the minimap). Nukes aside (of corse they chose the Japanese... just to piss guys like you off, Andrew_Jay ), I like the shapes of the continents produced by the random maker. They just look nice and organic (or is that Geologic?).

ahhh you too know about the fas nuke site...it's one of my favorites!
think about it this way, one tank on the screen probably represents at least a company of tanks if not a bridage (possibly even a division) and a modern tank has a shield cost of 120 shields...a tactical nuke cost 300 shields, so its not like it is a single nuclear artillary shell (some of which has a yield of 40 kt)
i would say that the tactical nuke in the game is probably reprsentative of a nuclear barrage from some like the W-68 warhead
Quote:
|
40 - 50 Kt
Airburst or contact
Manufactured 6/70 - 6/75; retired 9/77 - 1991; 5250 produced
Poseidon Mk-3 RV warhead, each missile carried 10 RVs; aging problems with explosive required complete rebuilding of stockpile 11/78-83 (3200 rebuilt, others retired); largest production run of any U.S. warhead
|
so a tactical nuclear weapons probably falls in the range of something between a 400kt strike (10 warheads x 40kt) to a 1.5mt strike (30 warheads x 50kt)
an ICBM probably falls in the range of a 1mt to a 20mt strike
and here is some perspective
*the bomb dropped on hiroshima had a yield of between 15-16kt
