Age of Wonders. I'm sure its a great game, but the amount of time I spent on this one after shelling out $39.95 for it could be measured in nano-seconds. At least I spent more time at CtP...
Another big waste of $ was my brilliant purchase of the You Don't Know Jack series, bundled at $49.95 a year or two ago. I oughtta be *****-slapped for that one!

CtP. Easily. CtP2 was better, but, CtP was the biggest waste of my money ever.
And this is coming from somebody who bought Outpost.

no civ3's yet. I suppose that is a good thing. But judging from what I see on the civ3 general forum it might not be much longer. I really don't think I will play much until they fix some things.

I'm hoping the Ring and Dark Reign are not two different titles. I've been looking for Ring for quite a while. Would you mind detailing your objections to it. Either here or via Private Mail? Thanks,

I'll chime in and disagree with the criteria as well. I've got several games most picked up in the bargain bin, which I haven't had time to do justice, usually because I tend to buy two games at once and one is more appealing then the other. And even though I don't need new games I tend to purchase them any way. So games like Sea Dogs, Age of Wonders, SMAC take up hard disk space because their only decent games and not great games.
I rarely buy brand new games but occasionally get caught up in the hype (Civ3 and Ultima 9) luckily Civ is great, Ultima 9 however sucked and it wasn't just the bugs; it was an all around bad game IMO. So it gets my nomination for worst game.

recently there are more and more bad game. they look nice, but just play bad.
i bought tropico and played it maybe 1 hour. i got as a gift settlers4 (because that person knew i loved settlers3 and 2) but it was so bad i just installed it and played for 5 minutes.
next one has to be civIII. even though i spend 3 days playing it (once until 5AM), I don't like it anymore. I hope a patch will fix it.

I have to go back a ways for the worst games ever, but I'd have to say Outpost and Descent To Undermountain. These games were AWFUL!!!
More recently my picks would be Black & White and Europa Universalis.

Worst purchase ever made?
That's a tough one - so many games that ended up in the cupboard after 5 mins.
I think I'd have to go with an old Robin Hood game I bought about a decade ago. Controls were as annoying as hell and the gameplay just sucked terribly.

Worst purchase ever probably was Destiny "The Micromanagement Nightmare". (see the "whatever happened to Destiny" thread) Luckily, I didn't pay much for it.

Caesar 2 was a very good game and Caesar 3 was clone crap to cash in on AoE.
Recently though, there have been so many. Starfleet Command 2, Civ:CTP and Railroad Tycoon 2 being notable for their crapiness.
But the award for "Waste of $90" goes to Ultima 9.

Since I bought Missing In Action, I have never bought a game that I'd have to regret.

Every year I buy the new Championship Manager, just to have up-to-date stats and a few little gameplay tweaks.
When will I learn

So do I, but I hardly ever play it. I don't think I've got through a whole season. I could've just been satisfied with the demo. I got a bit disillusioned with the apparent abitrary results. Load a saved game just before a match is to be played and look at how different the score can be. However, I have managed to resist buying the latest one. It would be better waiting for CM4. At least I managed to sell my older versions for a reasonable price.

That would probably happen IRL, if you could turn back time... I guess if you play the right tactics, you'll increase the chances of winning, and do well over time. Trouble is, I'm utterly, utterly clueless about this game, and it's still unfeasably addictive.
In older versions, it was quite easy to get really good players on free transfers, even in the Conference, and then you didn't have to worry about tactics at all (as long as you didn't put your striker in goal, or something). It's getting to be quite a tricky game now, though.

Hey TH was a good game, those were good spend money (I still wonder why they didn't make a Th2?!? )
I have only made bought one game I really regret. The game American Dream (Does anyone actually know that game?). The game just sucked so big time. After buying that game I promised myself that I wasn't going to buy any games that I haven't tried yet. From that day I started to use warez as demoes, since demoes really sucks.

I'm surprised to find two games mentioned here: Black and White and Tropico. I haven't played either of them, but the reviews were great, especially for Black and White.
I was thinking about buying them, should I skip it? And why were they not so good?

I'm just happy I didn't buy them. They are both 2-weeks-games, meaning after 2 weeks you are tired of them
Tropico: I just couldn't get addicted, strange really since I love such type games, but there where just something missing, I can't point out what
B&W: Every part of the game I have seen was annoying, from controling the "animal" to saving the game.

LoL@Carolus I could say almost exactly the same thing albeit with some minor variations.
Worst (least played) would probably be C&C: Red Alert. I really enjoyed Dune2 but just couldn't get into RA.

I agree. Tropico is a great game, but has a short life. Black & White is a stinking pile of garbage, in all respects.
To explain further on Black and white - It was advertised as being a god game, but it seems like they threw in a some RTS garbage at the last minute, so it's turned out to be a very crapy RTS instead of the great god sim it was meant to be. The gameplay is very dull and in general, lame. There are an entire 6 levels (yay! ) in each one, you do pretty much the same thing - throws rocks around untill the people believe in you and your influence grows so that you are able to throw rocks around the next village, repeat untill you get near the enemies influence at whicht ime they will happily blast you with an infinate amount of miracle power. Such fun!.
As for the creatures - they where meant to be a highly sophisticated AI which learns through experience. But the AI turned out to be quite simple and unimpressive - it can only learn certain, pre-programmed things (for example, you teach it the rain spell - instantly he will know that watering crops and trees causes them to grow and that watering a fire will put it out.) As if that wheren't bad enough, the AI seems to suffer from ADD and is changing what it's focused or thinking about every 2 seconds, thus making it impossible to learn or teach anythign usefull. and on a related note, being able to see what the AI is thinking or focusing on eliminates the "learning" AI experience, and makes it quite obvious that you have to program the AI rather then have it learn on it's own.

I don't buy games very often and I am very picky when I do, so I have had no problems with games I have bought.
Although one game I was considering and didn't in the end, thank f**k, and downloaded it instead was CtP2. A truly abysmal travesty and a disgrace to the TBS genre of games.
