Still need a map
Unfortunately, all nice tools to make map-editing easier won't work properly. Also, I might just be too stupid to learn new tricks when the old ones worked... what do I know.
Anyway, I still need a map for my new scenario. It's boundaries should be:
West:Baghdad
East: Delhi
North: Syr Darja
South: Oman mountains
Perhaps this might serve as a motivation:

I'd like it rather quick, but it shouldn't be the most top priority. If it's done by the end of the week that'd be enough.
75x120 squares is appropriate.
Thanks

Thanks to University and real life I won't be able to make that deadline. I'm sorry, this looks like a rather lengthy job for me.

NP. If you get it done by end of next week that'd be just as well. Don't rush it.

I will try my best. But I am making no promises Stefan. I need to find a nice template picture to work from and where the hell is Syr Darja? I cannot find it on any maps I have so far.

The Syr Darja is a river in southern Kazakhstan and northern Uzbekistan flowing out of the Aral Sea. In antiquity it was known as the Jaxartes...

Sorry
Stefan, I am very sorry but I just cannot get the job done in time. There is too much else to do in real live. I am very sorry, perhaps ask Mercator for advice?

Damn server!
I replied to this a couple of hours ago, apparently my reply didn´t make it...
Sorry for not answering any sooner. But, well, I´m not really making a lot of maps these days.
[Heresson interlude]And I have yet to finish several of my and Maciej´s maps. Hmmm, and Maciej even urged me to make this map for you... Are you sure Maciej? That´ll delay the finishing of your maps [/Heresson interlude]
I am rather busy myself, so it will take at least to the end of next week. But I´ll give it a shot, if you don´t have the time to wait for a map (and use an awful alternative instead ).
Here´s an image of a map of the area (from the new batch of maps from Harlan´s Civ3 Haven )...

And the same area rotated...
The first map basically has Baghdad in the West, the Jaxartes in the North, Delhi in the East and the Oman Mountains in the South.
On the second map, Baghdad is in the Northwest, the Jaxartes in the Northeastern corner, Delhi in the Southeastern corner and the Oman mountains roughly in the Southwest.
Which one will it be? No. 1 or No. 2 or something even better?

Mercator, when S.H. first posted his map request, I posted one of the ecoregion bitmaps of the area. If that's of any use, let me know, I can repost it while at the office. There was also the matching shaded relief image.

Yes, sure that would be great.
But could you make sure the area is large enough? That way I'll have enough "elbow room" if I rotate or enlarge the area a bit.

I'll make a second, much larger pair of images today. Here is the older one with north at the top:

Also, look at the scenario "Iran" by Harlan(?). This whole area is included on that map, with north at the upper right. It is a huge map, but could be cut down to size with MapEdit, that fine program made by somebody around here.

Here's a zip of a new pair (the second is a bitmap, I notice that both of those above are jpegs...). The extent of the pair of images above should fit into this pair when rotated 45 degrees. If you need the list of what the colors are, I can send you a new one. Good luck!

Great, thanks!
Now if only Stefan would reply
But I think I´ll start on both my suggested maps later this evening. Or maybe not, as I have to cook and then perhaps watch a good movie, and definately go to bed early for once.

Sorry, I tried to reply days ago, but the damn server busted every single one of my attempts
I'll go with the second choice (the one where Baghdad is in the north).

Sorry, I posted that while at work, so I couldn't just check before typing!
In any case, that map contains the area you need, and MapEdit could very easily chop out the new extents.

The map of the scenario 'The Great Game' also covers roughly the same area

Here´s a screenshot of what I got so far (map with rivers on the left, and without them on the right)...
The coastlines and rivers are done and I´m working on the terrain. The terrain of the Arabian peninsula is pretty much done the terrain in India is still a bit sketchy.
The map´s 70x139, by the way.

Damnit! I had almost finished the Himalayas and started on the Zagros mountains twice, but my computer crashed both times before I saved it.
Just ranting though, I´ll get it done...

I was just wondering where you got those wonderful pictures. Do you have any of Korea and maybe Japan?

Both can be found online at the National Geographic website.
The ecoregion imagery is here:
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/wi...rrestrial.html
The satellite data is here:
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/mapmachine
Edit: Oh wait... There´s much more over there. Use the menu on the left of the mapmachine (last link), select "World Themes" and then "Physical". You´ll then get a pop-up with some more themes, such as vegetation land use, elevation, habitat type and mineral resources (handy for Civ3).

And the map is nearly done, by the way. All I have to do is change the region around the Thar desert to jungle.
