Any interest in Improved Wonder pics?
I'm going to do it for myself, because I can't be bothered with always remembering exactly what each wonder does.
I figured if I'm going to do it and there's interest then I might as well get some feedback before I go and modify all the different wonder pics (the ones that pop up when you build a Wonder)
I'm attaching a jpg version (the forum doesn't take PCX) but you can download the PCX version to try it out in the game itself here:
http://www.dialisdn.net/user/adiscia...iv3/oracle.zip
When you download it and unzip it, you want to place it in your:
ART/WonderSplash directory.
You'll want to back up the original ORACLE.PCX first though.
Please try it out in the game and let me know if it blends reasonably well.
If anyone knows (and can provide) a TrueType version of the actual font used in the game, that would be GREAT!!!!
In the meantime I created a PhotoShop *template sort of thing* so I can easily do this to all the different wonder pics.
Please provide feedback either way.
Alessandro
P.S. In case the info bar looks too tall, it's that size to accomodate 2 lines of text, for wonders with Long descriptions. Other than that, the following line will either say "Effects Never Expire" or as in the oracle case, state when it expires. Finally in the bottom row on the left will be the civ type that most benefit, and on the right the culture points for the wonder.

Very nice work, Che.
I would be very interested in seeing them when their finished.
Since we're not getting movies, at least having the info on the screen helps.

What do you think?

I like the first style better.
This is a great idea!
Now if we can only get Civ3 to play a movie...

I much prefer the second one. The increased transparency is also a nice touch.
Keep it up!

I like the design and the transparency on the second one.
So....when will the rest be ready?

Great idea!
I'm still always forgetting what all those new wonders are doing, and it looks much better this way.

Thanks for the encouragement!!!
I will go with design #2 and will momentarily download the font provided by Hose (thanks Hose!) and will also try to make the window slightly smaller as PGM suggested (I'd like it to cover up as little as possible too).
Now for a public apology...
I accidentally posted the wrong ZIP file. I hope nobody tried it and for those who did... I'm sorry! Thank God for autosave, hu?
For those who didn't.... the version I uploaded was the untested one before I realized the graphic hadn't been converted to index color. I dunno about anyone else's Civ3 but mine crashed all the way out to windows when I built the Oracle
Again, SORRY!!!!!!!
And yeah, I removed the file. I think I might be able to get them all done tonight and upload them.

Ok, it's finalized!!!!
And methinks it's pretty cool, I love it anyway :-)
I managed to retain all the info provided in my first attempt, while providing an interface that is more consistent with CivIII's little windows, and taking up slightly more than half as much space
I'm hoping the interface is fairly straightforward (I did what I could to reduce the size of the sucker) but here's the explanation anyway.
The lines of text should need no explanation.
In the lower right hand corner in the big ball is the Culture Points of the wonder
then across the bottom, in the smaller balls, there are indicators for:
Commercial
Expansionistic
Industrious
Militaristic
Religious
Scientific
As you can see they're all dimmed except for those that apply.
In the example, the lighthouse is 2 culture points and it's geared towards Expansionistic and Commercial cultures. Or those can get a golden age by building it... tomatoes tomatoes
Let me know what you think.
In the meantime I'm preparing all of them!
Alessandro

Ok, this is offensive!
Here I was doing this conversion and going through the images... and I get to the Sistine Chapel...
...and Holy Smokes! What the heck were they smoking at Firaxis!?!?!?!
Instead of anything even closely resembling the Sistine Chapel, there is this brownish, medieval looking rook sorta thing. For those who don't know... namely Firaxis' artists, the Sistine Chapel isn't some medieval building with trees around it, it's an integral part of Saint Peter's Cathedral in Rome.
Oh well... thank God I wasn't too sleepy not to catch it
Sorry for those who would like to keep the images the same as they came with Civ and just add the info bar... but I can't do it. I can't use that aberration.
So, instead, I conveniently used a great photo I took this summer, illegaly in the real deal.
Fortunately, thanks to an excellent restoration financed by the Japanese, the colors in the chapel are so vibrant that IMHO they go very well with CIV3's other wonder pictures.
And here it is:

They're done!!!!
I posted in the CREATION forum and I guess at some point they will be made available in the Files Forum.
Here's a link to the post
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=31955
Please verify if they're available in the Files Forum before downloading from the link I provided in the post I just gave you a link to.
My ISP doesn't have the bandwidth to support a bunch of civvers downloading the file... so hopefully Apolyton will take it on their server
Alessandro
In that thread I also posted a sample, Leonardo's workshop
